Tesla launches CCS adapter in the U.S. to charge at other charging posts for $250

Tesla recently launched the CCS adapter in the US market, priced at $250. With this adapter, Tesla owners will be able to charge other public chargers, something many Tesla owners have been hoping for.

Over the past year, Tesla has said it is opening its Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles. This has been a concern for Tesla owners because it would increase traffic to the booster stations. Most importantly, the openness doesn’t work both ways: Tesla owners don’t have access to most non-Tesla charging stations, which are typically equipped with CCS connectors.

In 2020, Tesla announced the imminent launch of the CCS1 adapter, but for some reason, it was only available in South Korea. It took two years, but now Tesla has finally launched the CCS adapter in North America with an update to its online store at

In the product description, Tesla writes about the Tesla CCS Combo 1 Adapter: Expand your fast charging options with the Tesla CCS Combo 1 Adapter. The adapter offers charge speeds of up to 250kW and can be used on third-party charging networks.

The US Tesla website shows that the CCS1 to TPC adapter supports up to 250kW of charging power, while the Korean website shows up to 150kW of charging power. The Korean website shows that this adapter is currently only available for the Model 3 and Model Y, while the US Tesla website shows that this adapter supports most Tesla vehicles, but some vehicles may need to be modified to use it.
