Tesla Berlin Super Factory car production target: 5,000 cars per week in Q1 2023

Tesla’s Berlin hyperplant aims to produce 5,000 cars per week by the first quarter of 2023. Tesla held an open house in Grünheide on Sunday, Sept. 11. During Sunday’s event, the company discussed the plant’s water use and the plant’s environmental and water protection protocols with local employees. In addition, it provided information about the plant’s road and rail infrastructure, forest renovation, battery cell production and training/research at the Berlin hyperplant.

Tesla shared that production at its Berlin super factory is progressing “very well” and in June, Tesla announced that the Berlin super factory had produced 1,000 units in one week. The plant’s production goal is reportedly to reach 5,000 units by early next year.

Water use at the Berlin Super facility

Tesla wants to further reduce the water consumption of its Berlin super factory. It is particularly focused on reducing fresh water consumption. Currently, the plant consumes about 2.2 cubic meters of fresh water per vehicle. It already consumes as much water as Tesla’s planned in-house battery line in Germany.

Tesla says the average freshwater consumption in the automotive industry is about 4 cubic meters. According to ACEA, water consumption in EU car production has fallen by 30.5% since 2006. As of July 2022, automakers are using 3.76 cubic meters of water per vehicle.

Tesla Superfactory Transportation

Tesla is working to make commuting to its Berlin super factory more accessible for its employees. Earlier this year, Tesla shared plans to run shuttles for workers between Urquhart and a new station south of the Berlin SuperFactory site.

During Tesla’s Giga Fest, Elon Musk talked a bit about the train station. “Then it’s just a 30-minute train ride to Berlin. We’re actually going to build a train station where you can literally just – ironically, for a car company, you know, you can just take the train. You can drive your car, too. And that’s fine,” Elon Musk said.

During Sunday’s open house, Tesla announced that a train shuttle to the Berlin super factory could open in the spring of 2023.
