Tesla and Lincoln offer a 16-week training program to train next generation of EV technicians

Tesla recently announced a partnership with Lincoln Tech to train the next generation of electric vehicle technicians. Prior to 2018, Tesla expanded its team primarily by recruiting technicians from other car companies, or through people trained in internal combustion engine-related training.

While electric vehicles use some of the same components as traditional fuel vehicles, the powertrain is completely different and requires a lot of additional training to get up to speed, even for experienced automotive technicians. That’s why Tesla has been providing relevant training in-house to make it easier for technicians to get up to speed quickly.

After 2018, Tesla launched the Tesla START program, which offers a 12-week training program through a partnership with community colleges where those who pass the training can become Tesla service technicians.

Today, Tesla announced the expansion of the program through a partnership with Lincoln Educational Services Corporation

Lincoln Educational Services Corporation (NASDAQ: LINC) has been a national leader in professional technical training for more than 75 years. The company has signed a new agreement with Tesla, a world leader in electric vehicle (EV) production. The three-year agreement will establish a Tesla training facility on Lincoln’s Denver campus, and the program will offer Tesla START training at no cost to students in the immediate area to help develop the next generation of Tesla’s service technician workforce. Any automotive technology graduate from the Lincoln campus is eligible to apply for this advanced EV training program.

Tesla will occupy more than 6,000 square feet of space at the center and provide equipment and vehicles.

During the 16-week training program, students will receive a stipend based on the number of hours they study. The Tesla training facility will occupy approximately 6,000 square feet of space on Lincoln Tech’s Denver campus. Tesla will also provide vehicles, tools, equipment, charging stations and its own instructors to deliver the program. Upon completion of the program, graduates can be recruited for positions at the North American Tesla Service Center.
