According to the latest data from TechInsights, 2023 Q3 global laptop shipments totalled 51.2 million units, a year-on-year decline of 7%, which is the first time since Q1 2022 that the market decline slowed to single digits.

Shipments by vendor:
- Lenovo shipped 12.2 million units, accounting for 24% market share, down 5% year-on-year.
- HP shipped 10.3 million units, accounting for 20 % of the market, up 7 % year-over-year.
- Dell shipped 8.2 million units, accounting for 16% market share, down 10% year-on-year.
- Apple shipped 5.7 million units, accounting for 11% market share, down 30% year-over-year.
- ASUS shipped 3.8 million units, accounting for 8 % market share, down 10 % year-over-year.
- Other brands shipped 11 million units, with a market share of 21% down 2 % year-over-year.
As you can see from the data published by TechInsights, HP was the only one of the top 5 vendors to post a 7% increase in shipments, in contrast to Apple, which saw a 30 % drop in shipments. With the release of the new Macbook with the M3 series chipset, I wonder if Apple will be able to regain the momentum.

TechInsights analysts say that while demand for laptops is still low, especially in the business market, the slower pace of decline suggests that the market has weathered the worst of it. The laptop market is slowly recovering, and with support services for Windows 10 set to end in 2025, and the update cycle coming, it will drive the market into growth in 2024.
According to a report released by Tibco Consulting, laptop market inventories began to show a healthy trend starting in Q2 this year, which became even more pronounced in Q3, with a rebound in the laptop market predicted for 2024, with annual shipment growth of 2-5%.
