TCL told several media outlets before CES 2023 that it would launch TVs with QD-OLED panels by the end of this year. But TCL has now withdrawn that information, with a spokesperson saying in a phone call with contributing editor Caleb Denison that details about TCL’s QD-OLED plans were released in error.
TCL had previously stated that it would launch the first Mini-LED OD Zero TV in 2021, and TCL later stated that it would be postponed to early 2022, but now it has entered 2023, and the 8K X9 TV officially promoted by TCL has not yet entered the consumer market.
TCL is known for offering impressively low-priced TVs, so the final cost of a TCL QD-OLED TV could be much lower than that of Samsung and Sony. Both Samsung S95B and Sony A95K are very good QD-OLED panel TVs. If TCL can launch them, it should bring a certain impact to the current market.
QD-OLED is a hybrid design that combines the brightness and color of quantum dot technology in Samsung’s existing flagship QLED TV with the backlight of a self-luminous OLED panel to achieve higher brightness, Wider color gamut color performance, deep black level display, faster response, and wider viewing angles.
