TCL recently announced the launch of the TCL 40 NXTPAPER cell phone on the official website, said to be “the world’s first cell phone equipped with NXTPAPER class paper screen technology.”
The NXTPAPER display is originally TCL’s own technology, so this world premiere is really a premiere.
According to TCL’s official presentation, the NXTPAPER claims to provide a more paper-like viewing experience and reduce eye fatigue. The technology covers the LCD with a coating that illuminates the screen with natural light, eliminating the need for LED backlighting and thus eliminating harmful blue light. The NXTPAPER display has a higher refresh rate and better display than E Ink.
In February, the latest NXTPAPER 2.0 display technology debuted on the TCL NXTPAPER 11 tablet, with increased brightness of up to 500 units, automatic colour temperature adjustment, and an integrated light sensor for better visual effects.
Looking back at the phone, this new model is available in TCL 40 NXTPAPER and TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G variants with different product designs. Both models feature a light sensor that automatically adjusts the display brightness and colour temperature according to the time of day and the environment, and both have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The TCL 40 NXTPAPER features a centred cut-out screen with a 6.78-inch 1080p 90Hz NXTPAPER display, dual speakers and DTS-powered 3D sound with T-pen stylus support.
It packs a 32MP front-facing lens and a 50MP primary + 5MP ultra-wide angle + 2MP macro triple camera at the rear; it’s 7.89mm thick, comes with the Helio G88 chipset and 8GB + 256GB of storage, along with a 5010mAh battery + 33W wired fast charging.
TCL 40 NXTPAPER is priced at 199 euros (currently about RMB 1,584), will be the first to launch in the European market in September.
The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G is instead a much less configured version, with only the processor bumped up to the Tengui 6020, and other features that are a bit less impressive, such as a 6.6-inch 720p90Hz screen, 6GB of RAM, and 15W of charging, with an 8MP waterdrop lens on the front, a triple camera of 50MP + 2MP + 2MP on the rear, and no support for the T-pen stylus.
The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G is priced at €249 (currently around Rs. 1982) and will be available first in Europe in October.
