According to foreign media AutoCar, Tata Group’s new luxury electric vehicle brand Avinya will use Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA SUV architecture to produce high-end electric vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell said Avinya will use the EMA platform under a licensing agreement with Tata Passenger Electric Vehicles (TPEM).
The brand launched a concept car of the same name in April 2022, focusing on large space and flexibility, with a long wheelbase and rotatable front seats, and said that charging in 30 minutes can replenish 310 miles (about 498.9 kilometers ) battery life.
It is understood that the EMA architecture will be used in the next-generation Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Discovery Sport. The structure will deliver 800V and is expected to have a peak power of 350kW. Batteries for the platform will be supplied from Tata’s new factory in Bridgewater, Somerset, which is scheduled to start production in 2026.
Mader said the deal was unrelated to the Somerset site and would not affect any of the company’s other production sites in the UK or continental Europe. The Avinya car is not expected to be sold in Europe.
According to Jaguar Land Rover’s third-quarter financials, the deal between it and TMEP is a memorandum of understanding and the royalties have not yet been determined. The deal will also include Jaguar Land Rover providing engineering services to accelerate the pace of Avinya’s development. The new brand’s product line has been confirmed to consist of a “range” rather than a single model, with a launch planned for 2025.
