According to a new entry on the Kernel.org website, Google engineer Siarhei Vishniakou has developed a new Linux driver that provides vibration support for Xbox gamepads.

After Vishniakou spoke with the Xbox team, vibration support is now available on Linux for the two Xbox One controllers, model 1708 and model 1914, and the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller model 1797.

The purpose of Google engineers developing the Linux driver is to hope that the Linux-based ChromeOS can also support the vibration of the Xbox controller. If the driver is accepted by the Linux kernel maintainers, it is expected to be integrated into the Linux 6.4 kernel.
