Microsoft released Windows 11 build 25197 for members to test yesterday on the Dev channel of the Insider program, and it includes a new taskbar optimized for tablet mode that makes the taskbar a touchable size in that mode, as well as a hidden Spotlight UI feature that can be enabled via ViveTool if you’re not in the A/B test pool, in addition to a number of previously reported bug fixes.

At the same time, Microsoft announced that ISOs for Build 25197 are also available for download on the official website. ISO files allow users to install the latest development version freshly without updating their existing installation, and the prerequisite for downloading is simply registering your Microsoft ID as a Windows Insider, and of course, ISOs are also very easily available on virtual machines or other PCs A preview of the features of the Windows Insider program.

As mentioned earlier, after visiting the following address, you need to become a Windows Insider and sign in with your Microsoft account to get the required download links.

Another thing to remember is that Windows 11 Preview also requires activation with a genuine Windows key, just like the stable version.

The full release notes for build 25197 can be found in our previously translated post, and it is recommended to make sure that known issues do not affect you before entering the Dev channel.

In a Windows Insider blog post on Thursday, Microsoft introduced the “tablet-friendly” taskbar that was reintroduced in the Windows 11 Build 25197 preview release. The design was originally introduced in February and appeared in the official update along with other new features, but was subsequently pulled due to more internal development needs.

As part of the Windows Insider update, this taskbar experience improvement only applies to tablets (such as in 2-in-1 form), not traditional laptops or desktop PCs.

The taskbar proper is set to automatically hide when the user is idle to provide more screen real estate. In the stowed state, it displays some key information — such as time and battery percentage.

When stretched out, it displays several apps, widgets and Start buttons, and makes them more suitable for interaction on a touch screen.

The tablet-friendly taskbar also automatically returns to its optimized position when disconnected, or when the keyboard dock of the 2-in-1 device is folded back.

With this update, Microsoft has also introduced other feature improvements for non-2-in-1 devices, such as system tray, widgets, task manager, and some bug fixes for windowing.

In addition, when hovering over the menu options, you’ll notice new animations and illustrations on the sidebar of the Settings app.
