The latest news is that British mobile operators Vodafone and Three UK have reached an agreement to merge their operations in the United Kingdom. If British regulators approve the motion, the merger would make the two companies the largest operator in the UK.

Note: The largest mobile operator in the UK is Virgin Media O2, with 24 million customers, followed by EE, with 20 million subscribers.

Vodafone and Three UK, ranked third and fourth respectively, will become the UK’s largest mobile operator with 27 million customers after the merger, surpassing Virgin Media O2.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has stepped in to investigate, in particular to see if the merger will push up prices for customers. Vodafone and Three claim the deal will be “good for customers, good for the country and good for competition”, but the CMA may not think so.

Under the plan, users will be able to access full mobile and Internet connectivity in every London Underground station and tunnel. The first five stations to receive 4G connectivity from December 2022 will be Camden Town, Euston, Bank, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road.

With uninterrupted connectivity, users will be able to check the latest travel information, keep up with their email and latest news, follow social media, watch videos or make quick phone calls throughout their journey.

The tunnels will also create a new high-capacity fiber network in London, which will be used to provide complete fiber connectivity throughout the city. The illuminated lampposts and bus stops will host a network of small mobile transmitters, which will lead to improved 5G connectivity citywide.

Transport for London says that more than 2,000 kilometers of cable will be installed for this project. In addition to benefiting users, the project will host the Home Office’s new emergency services network, which will power police, fire and emergency response services.

By partnering with BAI, Transport for London will receive additional revenue over the 20-year term of the contract.
