Snapdragon 8 Gen2 has achieved a new milestone in the performance of top Android chips, with the latest data surprisingly showing that Qualcomm’s latest SoC is running at the default clock speed. That means that the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is actually slower than the regular version in multi-core workloads.

On Geekbench 5, Vivo’s X90 Pro Plus was spotted running Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and Ice Universe commented on his Twitter feed that this version has a Cortex-X3 core running at 3.20GHz. That’s slightly lower than the overclocked version of that SoC, which runs at 3.36GHz. Even so, the chipset took a new record in the multi-core test run of the benchmarking application, crossing the 5,000-point threshold with a final score of 5,106.

Qualcomm still has some work to do in terms of single-core performance, however, as it continues to disappoint, but we were impressed with the Snapdragon 8 Gen2’s performance when it comes to multicore workloads. These results could be attributed to the chip’s new “1+4+3” CPU cluster, as it now introduces four Gold cores running at 2.80GHz to achieve this high score.
