At the Thunderbird innovative new product launch conference, the consumer-grade AR glasses Thunderbird X2 was officially released. The glasses were demonstrated at CES 2023 in January this year, and the National Bank price was officially announced today – 4,999 RMB, with an initial price of 4,499 RMB.

In addition, for users who have purchased any optical waveguide AR glasses (regardless of brand), Thunderbird X2 has a special price of 3,999 RMB.

Thunderbird X2 adopts a shape similar to sunglasses and is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform. It is equipped with a 590mAh battery, 6GB memory and 128GB storage space. It uses a binocular full-color MicroLED optical waveguide display with a claimed brightness of up to 1,500 nits and a contrast ratio of up to 100,000: 1. Supports 16.77 million colors.

Thunderbird X2 is equipped with a 16MP camera that supports functions such as still photos, videos, and time-lapse photography. It is also equipped with a 0.7cc ultra-small full-color MicroLED light engine component, a diffraction light waveguide with high light efficiency that increases brightness by 3 times, and micron-level binoculars. Integrate natural display effects.

In terms of AR presentation, Thunderbird X2 has chosen a method closer to Google Glass than Microsoft HoloLens. For example, it is equipped with an intelligent GPS navigation function. During movement, the screen information of Thunderbird X2 can be updated in real time following the user’s itinerary, making it convenient for quick positioning and interaction.

The glasses can also pop up calls and messages, or have real-time AI translation of conversations between people. In addition, users can also use it to listen to music (it is said that there will be no sound leakage), and the camera can also shoot first-person video.

Additionally, Thunderbird X2 is compatible with native Android apps. It is learned from the press conference that Thunderbird will also launch a cooperative product with Alibaba later – Future Elf AR glasses developed based on Alibaba’s large model.

The Thunderbird team released update 102.7.0 for the email app. The update fixes a number of bugs, but one important change is that the client will not automatically update due to a conflict with Microsoft 365 Enterprise accounts.

The Thunderbird 102.7.0 changelog.

  • Localized versions and language packs use the “comm-l10n” library; no changes are required for downstream builds using official language packs
  • Fixes an issue where opening too many files when launching the application caused MSF files to be lost
  • Copying emails from a local folder to another folder on Windows 7 devices could cause an “Another Operation is using the folder” issue.
  • Allow incorrectly formatted email addresses to generate the pill
  • Fixes a possible failure to create a security exception for messages sent with a self-signed certificate when the hostname contains capital letters
  • Fix very slow S / MIME certificate validation
  • OpenPGP key import failed for key blocks with comments containing Unicode characters
  • Fix the chat conversation sidebar being too wide in some cases, causing scrollbars to be unusable
  • On the Mac, using the “backspace” key to delete an event from the Today pane deleted the selected message

A bug not yet fixed in this update is OAuth2 authentication, which does not apply to Microsoft 365 Enterprise accounts. Due to a critical authentication issue with Microsoft Microsoft 365 business accounts, Thunderbird will not automatically update to 102.7.0.

Thunderbird running requirements.

  • Windows: Windows 7 or higher
  • Mac: Mac OS X 10.12 or higher
  • Linux: GTK+ 3.14 or higher
