According to Taiwan Economic Daily News, TSMC has replaced Samsung and won a large order for Tesla’s FSD chip, which will be produced at 4/5nm. TSMC said no comment on this.

It is said that Tesla is expected to become TSMC’s top seven customers next year, and this is the first time that TSMC’s main customers are new energy car company customers.

Tesla is currently working on the development of a fully automated assisted driving system FSD (Full Self-Driving Computer), the use of self-developed chips, the integration of high-speed computing, AI and other functions.

Tesla’s previous generation of assisted driving chips was produced at 14nm, mainly in Samsung’s Austin factory, which is also known as Hardware 3.0, and subsequently upgraded to a 7nm process.

From the previously announced information, Hardware 3.0 image processing speed than Hardware 2.5 increased by 21 times, then Hardware 2.5 unit cost 20% lower, and the old owners can also be upgraded for free.

Among them, Tesla’s self-developed fully automated driving FSD chip arithmetic power up to 144TOPS supports Full Self Driving Computer chip of 8 cameras will complete the visual processing work.

In addition, there is news that Tesla is developing the next generation Hardware platform with TSMC, the performance is 3 times the current model.
