Tesla has added a new setting for car owners to more conveniently control whether to allow remote operation of the vehicle. Tesla owners now have the option to disable remote start entirely, making it easy for owners to prevent others from using remote commands if needed.

The new feature was discovered this week by a Model X owner whose vehicle was upgraded to the 2023.27.7 software version. In the service menu, there is a switch option “Allow Tesla to Remote Start” that allows car owners to grant or cancel permissions for others to use functions such as remote start, horn, flashing lights, etc. When this feature is disabled, the remote start functionality is completely turned off.

Another user pointed out in the post that Tesla service center service personnel no longer require the driver’s key card to use the remote start function. Instead, owners can use the new Tesla feature mentioned above to grant access via the mobile app.

Earlier this year, Tesla also offered the ability to enable or disable its Sentry Mode, a feature that lets owners remotely view what’s going on around their vehicle using the Tesla app.
