Tesla officially announced that it has produced a total of 5 million cars as of this week, about six months before the 4 millionth car rolls off the assembly line.

Tesla currently produces vehicles at four factories, two of which are in the United States, in Fremont, California, and Austin, Texas. In addition, Tesla also has two super factories in Shanghai, China and Berlin, Germany.

It is worth mentioning that the 2 millionth China-made Tesla vehicle just rolled off the assembly line at the Shanghai Gigafactory on September 6. Tesla said that it takes less than 40 seconds for a complete vehicle to roll off the assembly line at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. The vehicle leaves the production line and whistles twice to indicate completion of assembly.

Tesla said that 99.9% of the Shanghai Gigafactory are Chinese employees, and the localization rate of the parts of the Shanghai Gigafactory is higher than 95%. It adopts a vertical procurement model to avoid “middlemen making the difference.”

In addition, Tesla also plans to build new factories outside the United States in the next few years to continue to expand its production scope. It is reported that the automaker announced plans to build a new factory in Nuevo Leon, Mexico at the beginning of the year, and there is also news that Tesla is considering building a factory in India.

According to a new study by Vanarama, a car and van rental company, Tesla cars will be smarter than humans by 2033, according to foreign media reports.

Vanarama analyzed the processing power of Tesla’s microchips and found that Tesla’s microchips will surpass the human brain (10 trillion operations per second) in 11 years (i.e., 2033). In addition, Tesla’s D1 chip is 30 times more powerful than the chip they used 6 years ago.

At last year’s Tesla AI Day, Tesla unveiled its self-developed neural network training chip, the D1 chip, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm process and has a core area of 645 square millimeters, integrating up to 50 billion transistors, 354 training nodes, and 17.7 kilometers of internal circuitry alone. The core area is 645 square millimeters, integrating up to 50 billion transistors, 354 training nodes, and 17.7 kilometers of internal circuitry alone, achieving superb computing power and ultra-high bandwidth.

In early June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted that the second Tesla AI Day event would be postponed from August 19 to September 30, when the company may unveil a prototype of the humanoid robot Optimus.

In mid-August this year, Musk claimed that Tesla’s humanoid robot could be cheaper than a car in the future. In addition, he said that the robot is close to the height and weight of an adult, can carry or carry heavy objects, can also walk in small steps, and the screen on its face is an interactive interface for communication with people.

Musk has tweeted that the purpose of Tesla’s AI Day event is to convince talented artificial intelligence, software or chip talent to join Tesla.

According to foreign media reports, Tesla has delivered nearly 3 million electric vehicles in the entire 10 years ending in the second quarter of 2022 since it delivered its first car in the third quarter of 2012. According to the foreign media’s calculations, the company has delivered a cumulative total of 2,899,877,000 electric vehicles as of the second quarter of 2022. Based on recent trends and Tesla’s overall guidance, Outside Media expects the company to reach a cumulative total of 3 million vehicle deliveries sometime in late July or August.

Tesla’s 2022 second quarter production and delivery report, released earlier this month, showed that the company produced 258,580 vehicles and delivered 254,695 vehicles in the second quarter, down from the first quarter of 2022.

In the first half of the year, Tesla delivered 564,000 vehicles, well above the 386,200 units delivered in the first half of 2021. June of this year was reportedly the highest month for car production in Tesla’s history.

With production picking up at Tesla’s global superfactories and supply shortages easing, the company is on track to deliver more than 1 million electric cars in 2022, an amount twice as many as last year.

Tesla is reportedly set to report its second-quarter 2022 earnings on July 20 after the close of trading in the U.S. Eastern time. In addition to announcing its 2022 second-quarter earnings, the company will also hold a second-quarter earnings conference call at approximately 5:30 p.m. that day.

In a new software update, Tesla confirmed that its vehicles are now scanning rough roads such as potholes to help avoid them damaging the vehicle by adjusting the suspension. In order to achieve fully autonomous driving, a system must be able to handle a wide range of different situations – including different weather and road conditions.

These conditions such as potholes are sometimes difficult for human drivers to handle, and some believe it is impossible for Autopilot to properly navigate them. Tesla is using its large fleet of customers equipped with Autopilot hardware to capture data on these corner conditions and teach its neural network to handle them.

Back in 2020, company CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla Autopilot would eventually be able to detect potholes and create mini-maps to remember them and help cars avoid them.

Two years later, Tesla Autopilot isn’t quite there yet, but people do now see the first confirmation – Tesla’s fleet is looking for them or more “rough roads.

In the new 2022.20 software update, the automaker wrote in the release notes about a new feature of the “Tesla Adaptive Suspension” system.

Tesla Adaptive Suspension will now adjust ride height for upcoming rough roads. This adjustment may occur at different locations as the vehicle downloads Tesla vehicle-generated rough road map data, depending on conditions.

This is the first confirmation of a Tesla fleet scanning the road to assess its condition.

For now, this is not about Autopilot or Fully Automated Driving (FSD) beta navigation on those rough roads, but rather Tesla adjusting the suspension for those conditions.

Tesla has provided instructions on how to activate the feature.

The instrument cluster will continue to show what happens when the suspension is raised for comfort. To enable this feature, click on Control > Suspension > Adaptive Suspension Damping and select either the Comfort or Auto setting.

Obviously, this feature is only available on Tesla vehicles with adaptive suspensions such as the new Model S and Model X.
