Telegram and TON Foundation announced a cooperation with Tencent to create a “super ecological platform” similar to WeChat

According to foreign media TechCrunch, Telegram and the TON Foundation are cooperating with Tencent and are expected to build Telegram into a “super application ecological platform” similar to WeChat.

Telegram said it has been developing a platform on which third-party developers ranging from games to restaurants can build “mini-apps” to interact with users. In Telegram’s own words: “Developers can use JavaScript to create infinitely flexible interfaces that can be launched inside Telegram and can completely replace any website.”

Foreign media believe that the mini-program model pioneered by WeChat in China is worth learning from. With this cooperation strategy, Telegram’s “mini-app” ecosystem is expected to cover global users in the future.

It is reported that in order to build this “super application” platform, Telegram will rely on a network of infrastructure partners from the mature technology world and encryption field. These include the Open Network (TON) Foundation and Tencent Cloud. IT House learned after inquiries that the former will “lay the blockchain foundation” for Telegram and is said to “operate as an independent organization”; the latter will be built based on TON Projects provide analysis.

Foreign media claim that Tencent Cloud “has successfully supported TON validators and plans to further expand its services to help meet TON’s high computing intensity and network bandwidth requirements.”

Foreign media said that with the help of the TON Foundation and Tencent, Telegram is building a decentralized “mini application platform.” But it remains to be seen “how developers will adapt to the platform” and “what lessons Telegram will learn” from WeChat’s success.

In another big update offered a few days ago, Telegram accused Apple of taking too long to review new versions of its software. At the time the company’s CEO Pavel Durov said, “We’ve got some Halloween surprises for you, but it seems some people don’t want us to celebrate,” and Telegram today finally rolled out the previously mentioned surprises: a voice-to-text feature for video messages, multiple usernames, group themes, and more.

Durov said Apple took “more than a week” to review the latest update to Telegram, without telling “the reason for the current delay. Apple claims they usually review apps within 24 hours, “but, as a rule of thumb, it takes at least 7-10 days for any meaningful product update to reach the App Store. The statement comes at a time when Apple is facing criticism for adding gambling ads to the App Store and tracking users without their consent.

One of the most exciting features added to Telegram is the transcription of video messages, an advanced feature that allows users to convert any voice message to text, and it now brings the same functionality to video.

Telegram has also added a topic feature to groups, and with hundreds of thousands of users able to become part of groups, the application now enables the concept of topics, creating separate spaces for specific chat topics. This feature functions as a personal chat within a group and supports its shared media and notification settings.

This feature is designed specifically for large groups, adding new ways to customize their chats and facilitate discussions. Later this year, Telegram is also expected to launch a different set of tools tailored for smaller groups.

In addition, users can assign multiple usernames to their accounts and public chat rooms, and Telegram explains that while it works like a basic username, such usernames “can be less than five characters” and “once obtained, users have full control over their collectible usernames.

Telegram also added a redesigned night mode for iOS users, new emoji packs, as well as new interactive emoji packs and an improved emoji response feature.

The CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, accused Apple’s App Store policy of destroying dreams and ruining entrepreneurship, specifically referring to Apple’s policy of imposing a 30 percent commission on in-app purchases for developers earning more than $1 million a year.

Pavel Durov wrote on his Telegram channel that Apple has informed the messaging platform that it will not be able to allow content creators to sell using third-party payment methods. telegram allows content creators to provide access to channels or individual posts through a paywall (a blocking system that prevents non-paying users from viewing web content), and users can pay through third-party payment, rather than Apple’s in-app purchase system.

Durov said Apple was “not satisfied that content creators could monetize without paying 30 percent commissions” and that Telegram had no choice but to disable paid posts and channels on its iOS app. how a multi-trillion dollar monopoly can abuse its dominant market position at the expense of millions of users trying to monetize their own content.”

Durov accused Apple of destroying dreams and crushing entrepreneurs with its App Store commission, a tax that requires a 15 or 30 percent commission from Apple on most in-app purchases. durov called on regulators in the EU, India and around the world to “start taking action.

Durov’s full statement reads as follows.

"Some content creators have started using third-party payment bots to sell access to individual posts on their Telegram channels. This way, content creators can receive close to 100% of their users' payments, which is great.

Unfortunately, we have heard from Apple that they are unhappy that content creators are turning a profit without paying 30% tax to Apple. Since Apple has complete control over its ecosystem, we have no choice but to disable such paid posts on iOS devices.

This is just another example of how a multi-trillion dollar monopoly can abuse its dominant market position at the expense of millions of users trying to monetize their own content. I hope regulators in the EU, India and elsewhere start taking action before Apple destroys more dreams and crushes more entrepreneurs with a tax higher than the value-added tax imposed by any government.

In the meantime, we at Telegram will work to provide creators with powerful and easy-to-use tools to commercialize their content - outside of Apple's restrictive ecosystem."

This isn’t the first time Durov has criticized Apple, as the CEO slammed Apple’s “obscure” App Store rules in August this year.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said Apple has been delaying an App Store update for the app that would “revolutionize the way people express themselves in messaging. In a Telegram message Thursday, Durov said the upcoming update has been in Apple’s review process for two weeks, and Apple has not offered any explanation for the delay.

If Telegram, one of the top 10 most popular apps in the world, is being treated this way, we can only imagine the difficulties small app developers are going through,” Durov wrote.

Telegram’s CEO also slammed Apple and Google for charging a 30 percent commission on apps and in-app purchases. Durov said the app review delay is just another disservice to commissions, which he likened to a “tax.

“Regulators in the EU and elsewhere are slowly starting to investigate these abusive practices,” he said.” But the economic damage Apple has already done to the tech industry won’t be eliminated.”

This isn’t the first time Telegram’s updates have gotten stuck in Apple’s app review process. Back in 2018, Apple delayed a global update after Russian authorities asked Apple to remove the secure messaging app from the App Store.

Other app developers and executives have complained about Apple’s app review process in the past, with Hopscotch CEO Samantha John calling Apple’s review process “Kafkaesque” in 2021.

In recent years, Apple has made moves to revise its app store policies, including updating its app review process and rules and imposing a lower commission of 15 percent on apps that earn less than $1 million.
