Sensor Tower shop intelligence data shows that Miniclip’s SYBO Games’ Subway Surfers topped the global mobile game download charts in March with nearly 20 million downloads.

India was the top market for Subway Surfers, contributing 23.4% of downloads, followed by Brazil and the US with 7.3% and 6.4% respectively.

The other four games in the top five were Free Fire, Roblox, King’s Candy Crush Saga and Gametion’s Ludo King.

On the Apple App Store, NetEase’s Egg Boy Party was ranked number one on the download chart, overtaking Roblox.

The report said that in March 2023, there were 4.5 billion downloads of handheld games worldwide on the App Store and Google Play, up 9.7% year-on-year (only first-time installs from App Store or Google Play accounts are counted). The Indian market ranked 1st with 830 million downloads, accounting for 18.5% of the global total. The US ranked 2nd with 8.1% of downloads and 3rd was Brazil with 8%. i

Game developer SYBO announced at the GDC 2023 exhibition, the “Subway Runner” hand game is about to celebrate its 11th birthday in May this year, the cumulative global downloads exceeded 4 billion times.

The statement from Mathias Gredal Norvig, CEO of SYBO, is as follows:

"The SYBO team has worked tirelessly for over a decade to set a new milestone of 4 billion handheld downloads. We are very grateful to parkour fans around the world for driving this game forward.

2022 is a pivotal year for Subway Runner, as it was named the most downloaded mobile game, and this year we plan to offer new ways for fans to interact with the IP."

SYBO says the handheld Subway Runner has more than 20 million daily active users and more than 150 million monthly active users. Last year on the TikTok platform, there were more than 31 million views per month related to the handheld game, and more than 320 million views on the YouTube platform last year.

Sensor Tower released a report today stating that in January 2023, the global mobile game downloads on the App Store and Google Play will be 5 billion times, a year-on-year decrease of 2%.

Among them, the Indian market ranked first with nearly 800 million downloads, accounting for 15.8% of the total global downloads; the Brazilian market ranked second with 8.7% of downloads; the third was the US market, accounting for 8.1%.

Sensor Tower said that Miniclip’s SYBO Games “Subway Surfers (Subway Surfers)” was downloaded nearly 23 million times, ranking first in the global mobile game download list in January. India is the game’s largest market, contributing 18.7% of downloads; followed by the Chinese iOS market, accounting for 11.5%; and the Brazilian market, accounting for 7%.

Elsewhere, King’s Candy Crush Saga came in second with over 21 million downloads. India is the game’s largest market, contributing 30.7% of downloads; followed by the U.S. market, accounting for 7.2%; Mexico followed closely with 5%.

It is learned from the Sensor Tower report that the other three games in the top five are “Roblox”, Garena “Free Fire” and EA “FIFA Soccer”.
