Sony’s latest virtual reality device PSVR2 not only has advanced technology and a wealth of game resources but also exclusive “Horizon: Call of the Mountain” and other great works. However, this device also has an obvious disadvantage in that it can only be used on the PS5 console and is not compatible with the PC platform like other competitors. But today someone claimed online that they have managed to crack the PSVR2’s hardware authentication mechanism, allowing it to run on a PC.

The news first came to light on the NeoGAF forums, and then a user named iVRy tweeted a photo showing the words “PSVR2 certified!” iVRy is a developer of a Steam app that allows users to force various VR devices, including the first-generation PSVR, in other programs. iVRy tweeted that they had cracked the PSVR2’s encryption, but they couldn’t reveal the exact method because it could invite legal action from Sony.

Although the hardware certification has been cracked, a driver is still needed to make PSVR2 work on PC, which will allow PlayStation controllers to be used in applications and games that would otherwise not support them, such as the first generation of Overwatch. However, there is no driver for PSVR2 yet, and developing such a driver would be time-consuming and complex, requiring reverse engineering the USB protocol and a lot of guesswork and testing.

So there’s still a long way to go to get PSVR2 running on a PC. Of course, that doesn’t preclude Sony from suddenly releasing an official driver that would allow PSVR2 to natively support VR games on the PC platform. So we can only wait to see which side acts first, the official or hardware enthusiasts?

Sony’s new device PSVR2 device is launched exclusively for the PS5 console. Recently a Verge reporter wanted to know how PSVR2 would look when plugged into a PC and tried it out for himself. Sony PR representative Beca Truong said in a statement, “PSVR2 is designed for the PS5 console.” When the reporter asked whether PSVR2 supports PC platform, Sony did not respond positively.

Therefore, in the test, the reporter directly plugged PSVR2 into the USB-C port of AMD Radeon RX 6800XT. Windows recognizes it as a second display and limits the resolution to 1080p. However, after plugging in, SteamVR continued to ask the user to plug in the VR headset, indicating that it did not recognize the PSVR2.

Sony does not encrypt the USB-C video signal, but without driver support, there is not much that users can do with the PSVR2 to lock the computer except as a second display. After connecting PSVR2 to the computer with USB, it will be displayed as a HID compatible gamepad. Next, I don’t know if there is a third party that can do something about it.

On PSVR devices, there are some third-party tools to make it recognized by SteamVR on PC. But the developers of the third-party tool iVRy recently pointed out that this required a lot of work to achieve, and the open-source camera tracking solution is still not comparable to Sony’s own solution.

In PSVR2, the biggest challenge for mod authors is its built-in tracking system, haptic feedback and handle functions. Of course, it would be even better if Sony was willing to offer support proactively. Although Sony has recently moved many PlayStation games to the PC platform, it has not expressed its willingness to bring VR games to the PC.

Sony may not announce new TVs at CES, car-related projects are the focus https://www.techgoing.com/sony-may-not-announce-new-tvs-at-ces-car-related-projects-are-the-focus/ Wed, 04 Jan 2023 16:35:38 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=61257 CES is coming, and Sony is the one with all the attention. CES is coming, and Sony is the one with all the attention. As for which products will be available, it seems that it is not too difficult to guess, so let us make a forward-looking analysis. Sony’s TV panels are currently sourced from LGD and Samsung. However, Sony’s Mini LED TVs are not many. At present, China only has the X95EK series. I believe that Sony will release more Mini LED TV products in 2023, because the price gap between Sony and competing Mini LED TVs is huge, and it is fully capable of inserting new products in the middle. product line competition.

Of course, Sony will also upgrade its OLED or QD-OLED product line. LG has announced that the brightness of the new generation panel will be increased by 70%, and QD-OLED is inherently more efficient. The key is that Sony’s XR sensor chip is powerful and the color is more comfortable. These two series should be upgraded simultaneously, but considering the sluggish global consumption, perhaps the intensity will not be particularly large.

Building a car is the key

It is no news that Sony has teamed up with Honda to build electric cars. Considering the pace of cooperation between the two parties and the goal of launching in 2026, the new concept car on display this year should be closer to the mass-produced version than the Vision in 2021. At that time, we should see the specific specifications of the electric car released by Sony-Honda. Of course, it is also possible. Continue to launch concept cars to test the tone of the market. And you must know that Sony’s electric cars are produced in the United States. Considering the hot demand in the United States, will Sony-Honda launch a pickup?

Sony-Honda’s new car must be the focus product of this year’s CES, because of its performance and functions, it will become the target of friends and businessmen. For example, some Tesla cars can play Steam games, and Sony cars can obviously play PS5…

Is there any news about PS VR2?

Sony’s PS5, as a user, has produced a lot of masterpieces in the past year. Elden’s ring plus the exclusive God of War, GT, PS5 as the host, is above the passing line.

Now the question is what can users gain by buying PS VR2? The author is a PS VR user. To be honest, there are not many VR applications and games on PS4 that must be VR. Perhaps Ace Air Combat is one of them. So what does PS VR2 use to attract users? 4K resolution? The TV is also 4K, does it have to be VR? Really hope Sony gives consumers a reason to consume PS VR2 at CES2023.

Of course, Sony may bring other surprises, but generally speaking, the focus should still be on car making and PS VR2. Let us look forward to the press conference together!

With PlayStation VR2 Sense technology, exciting new worlds are brought to life with incredible visual clarity and a uniquely immersive and emotional approach.

Lens adjustment dials allow you to customize the spacing between lenses to match your eye position for the best on-screen image. This device also includes vents that allow airflow into the lens to reduce fogging and improve player comfort.

Headset Feedback-Feel subtle, responsive device vibrations at key moments during gameplay. These vibrations are generated by a built-in motor that adds a smart haptic element to your sensory immersion while playing the game. In tense moments, detect your character’s elevated pulse, objects passing near your head, or the feel of a vehicle propelling you as you accelerate forward.

Storm 3D AudioTech – Immerse yourself in incredibly realistic soundscapes where the game’s audio dynamically adjusts to your position and head movement. Speaking on the PlayStation Blog podcast, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino confirmed that PSVR2 is not compatible with PSVR1 games as PSVR2 is “designed to present a truly next-generation VR experience”. “PSVR2 has more advanced features such as a new controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, inside-out tracking in the headset, eye-tracking, 3D audio and more.

So that means developing PSVR 2 requires a completely different approach to the original PSVR.”

There doesn’t seem to be any technical reason why PSVR games can’t be ported to PSVR 2, but it remains to be seen how many developers will be willing to port PSVR 1 games to PSVR.

PlayStation VR 2 is scheduled to be released in early 2023. Sony said earlier this year that they had more than 20 games ready for the PlayStation VR 2’s debut.
