Sonos has spent the last few years focusing on multi-room audio (multi-room audio) systems. And as early as 2019, Bloomberg news that Sonos will expand new audio product categories, and headphones is one of the direction.

Foreign tech media 9to5Mac believes that these headphones from Sonos may be sold on audio fidelity and will be integrated into the existing Sonos ecosystem. How headphones, portable speakers and home audio work together is an interesting question.

In an interview with foreign tech media outlet The Verge, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence hinted at a new product launch in 2023.

While we are very cautious about announcing our product roadmap, we will be launching four new products, one of which will be announced in fiscal 2023,” Spence said at Sonos’ earnings meeting on Wednesday. He stressed that the new categories will help diversify Sonos’ business in the long run.

It is understood that the ‘10,848,885 patent relates to user control of multi-room media systems. According to Sonos, prior to 2006, it was difficult for users to dynamically control groups of speakers, and the patent solves this problem by allowing users to customize and save multiple groups of smart speakers or other players, with each group activating the appropriate speaker based on a theme or scene.

Google argued that there was no infringement because the accused product allowed users to create groups of speakers that were not bound by topic names, but could instead use abstract names such as “A, B or C.” The court found that this only showed that Google’s product had features beyond those enumerated in the claim.

In addition, the court said that it would soon grant summary judgment on another patent-in-suit, 9,967,615.
