The Nothing company founded by former OnePlus co-founder Pei Yu officially released its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1), last month. The phone was released and raised a lot of concerns because the screen brightness did not reach the advertised level.

The Nothing Phone (1) features a 6.55-inch 2400×1080 resolution OLED screen that officially claims to have a peak brightness of 1200 nits. According to Computer Base, when they tested the phone, they found that the peak brightness of the Nothing Phone (1) screen did not reach 1200 nits no matter what the situation was, and its peak brightness tested was always slightly below 700 nits.

Nothing has since changed the peak screen brightness of the Nothing Phone (1) to 700 nits in the product description on its website but has not specified this incident.

Today, a spokesperson for Nothing responded to this. The Nothing Phone (1) screen is hardware capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1200 nits, but the current software limits it to more than 700 nits, Nothing’s decision was made to reduce the phone’s heat and improve its battery life.

In addition, the spokesperson said that Nothing will listen to users and actively collect data feedback to decide whether to address this issue in a future software update.

The Nothing Phone (1) is powered by a Snapdragon 778G+ processor, has a built-in 4500mAh battery, supports 33W fast charging, and comes with Nothing OS based on Android 12, with a starting price of about 3200 yuan.

Previously, some industrial chain sources revealed that the flexible display of Nothing Phone (1) is exclusively supplied by Visionox.
