Scientists at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore are developing an augmented reality (AR) contact lens that can display virtual information in the real world. The most interesting thing is that this high-tech contact lens is Powered by electricity generated from human tears.

The team has developed a flexible battery as thin as the human cornea, an ultra-thin battery capable of storing electricity when exposed to a saline solution, which is a type of tear. According to the researchers, this solution can extend the battery life of the contact lens by 4 hours for every 12 hours of wearing, which can also be charged by an external battery.

The battery itself is made from biocompatible materials and was developed without the use of any wires or “toxic substances,” making it more comfortable than some other smart contact lenses. “The most common charging system for smart contact lenses requires the addition of metal electrodes to the lens, which if exposed to naked people Right now, that does the damage. Another way to power the lens is inductive charging, which involves incorporating a coil into the lens to transmit power, much like a wireless charging pad for a smartphone. Our tear-based battery eliminates both Two potential problems that may arise from this approach also open up room for further innovation and development of smart contact lenses.”

According to the university, the team has filed for a patent through Nanyang Technological University Innovation Center (NTUitive) and intends to commercialize the smart contact lens sometime in the future.

ATTO 3, the first A-class high-performance SUV built by BYD on its 3.0 e-platform launched in Singapore. The car had already been available in other markets around the globe. It made sales by the name of Yuan Plus in China. Then again in Australia and Macau, it went on pre-sale by the same name ATTO 3. By launching in Singapore, the car is making its debut among ASEAN countries and it seems that ATTO 3 is the name the company prefers to use for the car outside of China.

BYD has drawn inspiration for the word ‘ATTO’ from ‘attosecond’ in Physics, which is a unit of time many orders smaller than the second. An attosecond is to a second what a second is to about 31.71 billion years. BYD thus may want to define speed as one of the defining features of the car. The new model was designed for high-performance vehicles with four major advantages: aesthetics, intelligence, efficiency, and safety.

BYD’s ATTO 3: Car specifications

The car adopts BYD’s Dragon Face 3.0 design language. The interiors of the car have a cool sporty theme that would certainly excite the young crowd. ATTO 3 is a front-wheel drive that carries a motor that draws a power of 201hp (150kW) and yields a torque of 310Nm. The car can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.

BYD’s ATTO 3: Battery and charging

The car uses a 60.5kWh BYD Blade unit that has an NEDC range of up to 480km. It supports 80kW CCS2 DC and 6.6kW Type 2 AC charging.

BYD entered the Singaporean market nearly 10 years ago and has been offering new energy vehicles ranging from taxis, tour buses, city buses, trucks, forklifts, and urban commodity logistics vehicles. When ATTO 3 comes to market here, it would start selling at SGD 183,888 (US $ 130,000).
