Sensor Tower data show that in the first half of 2022, Apple App Store and Google Play Store global consumer spending reached a combined $65 billion (about 436.15 billion yuan), up about 1 percent from $64.4 billion (about 432.124 billion yuan) in the same period in 2021.

IT Home learned that Apple’s App Store generated about $43.7 billion (about 293.227 billion yuan) in revenue from in-app purchases, subscriptions, paid apps and games in the first half of the year, up 5.6 percent from $41.4 billion (about 277.794 billion yuan) in the same period a year earlier. Conversely, spending from the Google Marketplace declined 7.4% year-over-year to approximately $21.3 billion (approximately RMB 142.923 billion) compared to $23 billion (approximately RMB 154.33 billion) in the same period in 2021.

In particular, TikTok (including the Jitterbug App Store China) maintained its position as the world’s highest-grossing non-game app in the App Store and Google Play store. Users supported $1.7 billion (approximately RMB 11.407 billion) in the first half of the year, up 85% from $920.7 million (approximately RMB 6.178 billion) in the same period last year. TikTok’s total revenue has now reached approximately $5.5 billion (approximately RMB 36.905 billion).

In terms of downloads, the Apple App Store and Google Play Store had 71.2 billion installs, down 1.5% year-over-year. The Apple App Store saw 15.9 billion downloads worldwide, down 2.5% year-over-year, and the Google Play Store saw 55.3 billion downloads, down 1.3% year-over-year.
