Blogger @digitalchat.com broke the news today that Honor satellite communications technology has been implemented, and the trademark application is currently being registered – “Honor Hongyan Satellite Communications”. Honor has invested heavily in this commercial satellite call technology, and the Honor Magic6 series is the first to use it.

It is found that the international classification of the “Glory Hongyan” trademark is 38, and the application date is November 13, 2023.

The goods/services of this trademark include news delivery; radio broadcasting; simultaneous broadcasting of television on global communication networks, the Internet and wireless networks; data streaming; location services (telecommunications services); router rental; phone communications; fiber optic communications; provision Database access services; satellite communication services; digital network communication services; communication equipment rental; provision of global computer network user access services; telephone communications; satellite transmission; computer terminal communications; voice, video and information transmission; telecommunications routing node services.

It is worth mentioning that there has been a new model BVL-AN16 that has passed the 3C certification of the China Quality Certification Center and supports 100W fast charging. The product name is “Satellite Mobile Terminal” and is expected to be the Honor Magic 6 Pro phone.

It is reported in November this year that Li Kun, General Manager of Honor Terminal Co., Ltd.’s flagship phone, attended the Satellite Mobile Communications Industry Development Forum at the 2023 Digital Ecology Conference and said that the company’s self-developed satellite communications technology has overcome the three major problems of antenna size, call endurance, and communication experience. Technical difficulties are expected to provide consumers with the smallest, most stable signal, and most energy-saving phone satellite communication experience.

Canadian satellite communications company Telesat announced that it has signed a contract with space technology company MDA, and the Lightspeed constellation will be fully funded to build 198 satellites. Telesat Lightspeed satellites are scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with polar and global services planned for late 2027.

The official website that the redesigned Telesat Lightspeed satellite network will achieve higher network efficiency and greater flexibility. The new technology will make each satellite smaller than previously planned while maintaining the highest level of service performance, elasticity, and overall usable capacity.

Notably, the 198-satellite program is expected to save about $2 billion in total capital costs compared to Telesat’s previous capital estimates. The constellation was originally planned to include nearly 300 satellites, but Telesat cut the size by 100 satellites after encountering financing problems.

Telesat now has total funding commitments from Canadian federal and provincial government partners totaling approximately $2 billion. That funding, combined with Telesat’s own equity contribution of about $1.6 billion and certain vendor financing, will provide enough funding for the Telesat Lightspeed program to launch global service — after the first 156 satellites are in orbit.

Apple has invested $5 billion in satellite communications company Globalstar in order to build a satellite rescue service for the iPhone 14 series, choosing to partner with the company in a deal. The latest reports say that Apple has invested another $252 million in the company in the form of a loan (the current amount is about RMB 1.749 billion).

Apple launched the iPhone 14 series last September, offering users free emergency satellite assistance for two years. iPhone 14 owners can use near-Earth orbiting satellites to send location and text data in areas not yet covered by cellular networks in the event of an emergency.

With more than a year to go before the 2-year free service expires, Apple has yet to announce details of how much the service will cost when it expires. But given that Apple is investing more in the service, the rates should not be too affordable.
