At the end of September 2018, Sigma, Leica, and Panasonic jointly announced the establishment of the L-mount alliance. Now, two new video manufacturers have announced to join the L-mount alliance, namely Japanese manufacturer Astro Design and Korean manufacturer Samyang Optics.

This is also the 6th and 7th members after DJI announced to join the L-mount alliance in July last year (Note: The current members of the L-mount alliance include Leica, Panasonic, Sigma, Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH, DJI, ASTRODESIGN, Senyang).

Leica launched the L mount for the first time in 2014 and currently has 10 cameras and more than 50 lenses in the alliance. The lenses of all the different systems can be used on any camera without adapter rings and without any functional restrictions.

According to reports, in order to maximize product diversity, the L mount has a diameter of 51.6 mm, making it suitable for full-frame cameras and also supports APS-C sensor cameras.

Thanks to the short flange distance of only 20 mm, the distance between the lens and the sensor is shortened and the structure is more compact, which is extremely helpful for the development of wide-angle lenses.

To ensure that the product is resistant to the highest levels of pressure and guarantees a long service life, the camera mount is made of high-quality, wear-resistant stainless steel with four flange-back fixing elements that prevent deflection and ensure that the camera and lens are always precise and precisely tightly connected.

Standard L-mount data transfer contacts ensure smooth data transfer between the lens electronics and the camera, as well as ensure compatibility with constantly updated firmware to keep up with technological advances in lens technology to maximize the performance potential of the lens.
