With the continuous development of display technology, OLED screen has become the new darling of the display industry. For the next generation of display technology solutions, there is a high call for MicroLED, and Samsung has taken the lead in its commercialization, launched The Wall TV.

As a MicroLED TV, The Wall uses a micro LED unit instead of a traditional backlight, and the display is excellent. However, BUSINESSKOTEA reported today that Samsung’s MicroLED TVs in both its Manhattan and Korea showrooms in the U.S. are experiencing bad dots, and reports of defects are increasing.

The Wall TV is priced at 170 million won overseas and 1049,999 won domestically, a high price that keeps its shipments very low. According to Omdia, a market research firm, the number of MicroLED TVs shipped this year is expected to be no more than 1,000 units. Therefore, once there is a MicroLED TV failure, it will lead to MicroLED TV failure rate increased by one thousand. And if ten MicroLED TVs fail, the technology’s failure rate will reach 1 percent.

For reference, Omdia data shows that this year, LCD and OLED TV panel shipments are expected to be 250 million units and 10 million units, respectively. If the OLED TV panel failure rate of 1%, then there will be 100,000 OLED TV failure. Therefore, MicroLED wants to replace OLED, there is still a long way to go.

Micro LED display technology refers to the self-luminous micron-sized LEDs as light-emitting pixel units, which will be assembled to drive the panel to form a high-density LED array display technology. The technology has almost all the advantages of OLED display technology, but also to do at very high brightness without worrying about the aging of the light-emitting units, life is far better than the OLED display.
