According to foreign technology media PhoneArena, Neowin and many other media reports, after the Galaxy Z Fold 3 official warranty period of 1 year, there is a large number of folding screens broken user feedback.

A user named Snoo_23916 said in the /r/ GalaxyFold sub-section that when he recently opened the Galaxy Z Fold 3 screen to show it to his friends, he suddenly heard a popping sound. After that, the right screen stopped responding to touch. He said that the phone has only been opened 2-3 times a week for 15 months, so there is no excessive wear and tear.

Another user named Mizderrung shared a similar experience, except that the device was 3 months out of warranty and Samsung refused to repair it for free, asking the user to pay A$700 for the repair.

Samsung user Antonio Lewis recently launched a class action lawsuit against Samsung, saying that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 folding technology does not meet Samsung’s officially advertised promise of durability.

According to the class-action lawsuit, Samsung officially advertised that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could be folded and unfolded 200,000 times, which is equivalent to 5 years of use. But the reality is that the Z Fold 3 has a high rate of screen failures, mainly cracks in the folding section and its extension.

The lawsuit claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s screen is highly susceptible to damage, with tiny particles entering through gaps in the hinge section and forming bubbles where the screen folds. The lawsuit claims that Samsung’s testing environment did not include real-world applications that exposed the phone to environmental factors such as temperature fluctuations, dust, sweat, water and normal daily handling of the device, all of which can affect durability and hinge functionality.

Lewis said he bought the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021 for about $1,800, but the screen failed after less than a year of actual use. lewis had contacted Samsung’s after-sales service, but the official response was that the screen was not covered by the repair.

The class action alleges that Samsung used “unfair, misleading and deceptive representations, omissions and acts” in selling the Samsung Z fold 3 phones. It alleges that Samsung violated the New York Commercial Code, the Virginia Consumer Protection Act and state consumer fraud laws (including North Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina and Utah).
