Samsung Electronics announced that it would reduce the frequency of software updates for the Galaxy S20 series of smartphones from once a month to once a quarter. This means that models such as the Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, and S20 FE will no longer receive security updates on a monthly basis, but will instead receive updates every three months.

It is noticed that the Galaxy S20 series has received the March 2024 security update, so it is still safe in the short term. But the models in this series will not receive the April update, and the next update is expected in June.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series was released in 2020 and ran on the Android 10 operating system. According to Samsung’s third-generation Android system update commitment, this series has stopped major Android version updates.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung has also lowered the update frequency of the Galaxy Note 20 series from monthly to quarterly.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series began to push the Android 13 / OneUI 5 system in early November this year, citing a report from the foreign technology media Galaxy Club that the series has recently received the G98**XXUFGVL5 firmware update again, including 12 A maintenance mode was introduced alongside the monthly security patch.

Samsung announced in late October that it would introduce a repair mode in OneUI 5.0, but it’s currently limited to some high-end Galaxy models. Samsung is working to expand the repair mode to more models.

When users need to take their Galaxy phones to a repair center for maintenance, they can turn on this mode and block all the data on the phone that contains personal information.

To access the repair mode, you need to turn it on in Settings > Battery and Battery Care, after which the phone will reboot. After the reboot, a separate account is created on the phone for technicians to use when repairing the phone, thus preventing them from accessing the user’s personal data.

The update has already been pushed to European Galaxy S20 models, and it is believed that Samsung will also push it to China Galaxy S20 devices in the near future.
