Strategy Analytics today released its latest research report, giving some insights into the smartphone memory market in Q1 2022.

SA said that the global smartphone memory market revenue in Q1 2022 was $11.5 billion. Samsung holds the top spot in the smartphone memory market (DRAM & NAND) with a sole share of 46%, while SK Hynix and Micron are close behind with 24% and 15% respectively.

In other words, the total revenue share of the top three players in the global smartphone memory market reached 85% in the first quarter of this year.

NAND flash memory market
SA noted that overall sales in the smartphone NAND flash memory market benefited from shipments of high-capacity UFS NAND flash memory, which grew 7 percent from a year ago.

Samsung Electronics had a 39 percent share of the smartphone NAND market in the first quarter of 2022, followed by SK Hynix (23 percent) and Armor Man (20 percent).

In terms of specifications, 128GB NAND capacity share has now reached 45%, as UFS 3.1 and UFS 2.2 NAND products are gaining popularity in smartphones.

DRAM Memory Market
IT House has learned that sales in the smartphone DRAM semiconductor segment decreased by 7 percent this quarter, with SA giving the reason as seasonal factors and supply chain disruptions among other reasons for reduced OEM demand.

From the report, Samsung firmly holds the top spot in the smartphone DRAM market with 52% of sales in Q1 2022, followed by SK Hynix (25%) and Micron (22%). lPDDR4X products dominate, while LPDDR5 form factor DRAM products continue to witness customer demand.
