AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs come in two designs, one with a single CCD design and a multi-core model like the R9 with dual Zen 4 CCD modules, but it seems that some of the R5 and R7 also use two CCD chips.

@Der8auer opened the cover and found that a mid-range processor like the Ryzen 5 7600X is surprisingly equipped with two Zen 4 CCDs, but the 7600X actually only has 6 physical cores and 12 threads, and from that point of view it doesn’t need additional CCDs at all, which can be a very interesting design.

Der8auer checked the activity of the other Zen 4 CCDs with a thermal probe and found that three micro modules (two Zen 4 CCDs and one IOD) were used on each chip, but only the IO chip and a single Zen 4 CCD were active, while the other Zen 4 CCD was not running at all.

For the original purpose of this design, AMD has not made any explanation. However, some foreign media speculate that AMD deliberately limited the function of its chip, but in fact, enabling the entire CCD is not as simple as imagined, and open the cover will lose the warranty, but do not open you will never know what is hidden in the hands of the CPU, can really be described as Schrödinger’s CPU.
