According to the release of openKylin, the 10th Annual Open Source Operating System Technical Conference (OS2ATC) was recently held in Beijing. At the conference, ROMA, the world’s first RISC-V development laptop, was officially released, and it is equipped with the openKylin operating system by default.

ROMA is the world’s first native RISC-V development laptop led by the RISC-V Foundation, developed by Deep Digital Intelligence and debugged by Forensic Technology, allowing users to experience native RISC-V development and RISC-V software ecosystem.

ROMA laptop comes in 12nm (Pro)/28nm (Standard) SoM package; quad-core RISC-V chip with GPU, NPU and function accelerator; upgradeable SoC motherboard.

The previous pre-order interface showed that the ROMA laptop will use a quad-core RISC-V processor, an Arm SC300 security processing unit, a GPU/NPU accelerator for video work, support for 16GB of LPDDR4 or LPDDR4X memory, and 256GB of storage. The machine will support most RISC-V distributions, and has RISC-V keys, which may be shortcut keys or custom keys for the development environment.

RISC-V SoM chip products using the same ROMA model will be available in succession from 2023 to 2024, providing RISC-V developers and enthusiasts with a more comprehensive product development experience.

In terms of software ecology, the RISC-V high-performance compiler developed by Jianshe Technology has been adapted to ROMA laptops and is compatible with mainstream compilers such as Clang and LLVM. It is currently the highest-performance RISC-V compiler on the market. Jianshi Technology’s RISC-V high-performance compiler is specially optimized for the Pingtou Gexuantie C910 open source IP core, and supports the seL4 microkernel. It is a key factor for the upper application software to run on the ROMA laptop.

openKylin is a desktop operating system root community led by Kylin Software. Since its establishment, it has continued to pay attention to and continuously invest in the ecological construction of the RISC-V architecture, and is committed to building the collaborative development of the operating system and the software and hardware ecosystem of the RISC-V architecture.

OpenKylin released openKylin version 0.95 in January 2013 (Based on the Linux 5.15 kernel), which is equipped with a new generation of UKUI 4.0 desktop environment by default, deeply optimizes the tablet mode, upgrades the system interconnection function, and supports device projection, Remote control, fast mutual transmission. Newly unlocked ARM architecture, officially adapted to Raspberry Pi and Cool Pi development boards, and supports the development mode of Raspberry Pi integrating software and hardware. At the same time, the adaptation of the RISC-V architecture Pingtou Yingying 1520 development board was completed.

On August 4, Japan’s Roma Semiconductor Corporation announced its results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2022.

According to the report, Rohm Semiconductor reported sales of 125,112 million yen, up 12 percent year-on-year. Operating profit was 35,261 million yen, an increase of 116% year-on-year. Net income was 26,105 million yen, an increase of 125% year-on-year.

By business segment, diodes and power devices performed well with a focus on the automotive-related market. In addition, sales of transistors in the industrial equipment-related market grew steadily.

In addition, sales of light-emitting diodes increased for the civil device-related market, while sales of semiconductor lasers decreased for the civil device-related market. By business category, sales for printers and other fields increased.

As for optical modules, sales of sensor modules for communication equipment decreased, but sales of sensor modules for industrial equipment-related markets increased. In resistors, sales to the automotive-related market were good, and in tantalum capacitors, sales to PCs, etc. increased.

The company said that in the electronics industry, the civil equipment-related market was somewhat affected by the new coronavirus infection, and the automotive-related market continued to smoothly nudge demand toward the expansion of electrification and densitization and the semiconductor market, despite the impact of the reduction in production of automobiles. In addition, in the market related to industrial machinery, investment in factory automation and digitalization is expanding in various countries, and with the impact of exchange rate changes, there is an overall trend of steady growth.
