In an effort to attract high-end gamers to their peripherals, Razer has just offered buyers of the Viper V2 Pro wireless gaming mouse the first $30 option of the Razer HyperPolling receiver. With a polling rate of up to 4000Hz, it’s designed to ensure that gamers can get an almost imperceptible head start in the heat of battle.

HyperPolling is only supported by RAZER Viper V2 Pro, a wireless gaming mouse for now.

The polling rate refers to the number of times a mouse or other peripheral will pass information to the host.

The typical polling rate for wireless peripherals on the market is in the 1000Hz range, meaning that the “refresh latency” is around 1-ms.

However, gaming peripheral manufacturers, represented by Razer, already offer solutions with polling rates up to 8000Hz.

While the polling rate of the Razer HyperPolling wireless receiver is “only” 4000Hz, the refresh rate of high-end gaming monitors is currently only around 480Hz.

Previously, peripheral manufacturers have been in other aspects of the arms race, such as the race to equip their high-end gaming mouse with more powerful sensors.

But near the end of time, the polling rate seems to have become a new battlefield opened up. As for whether consumers are willing to pay for such a premium, still waiting for time to test.
