The Radxa ROCK3 Model C is a credit card-sized single-board computer that looks a bit like a Raspberry Pi, but with more input and output options, including an M.2 2230 slot for adding storage or a wireless network card.

The Raspberry Pi 4 is powered by Broadcom’s BCM2711 chip, while the ROCK3 Model C is powered by the 1.6 GHz Rockchip RK3566 quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor. The Rock3 Model C is priced from $39 (currently about $269).

The starting price applies to models with only 1GB of LPDDR4-3200 memory and no storage, and upgrading to a 2GB memory model costs an additional $5 (currently about $34). Versions with 4GB or 8GB of memory are not yet available, but are expected to be available soon.

In addition to the M.2 slot, the Radxa single-board computer has a microSD slot that can also be used for storage and supports the optional eMMC module.

The single-board computer ports include

1 x HDMI

1 x 3.5 mm audio

1 USB 2.0 OTG

1 USB 3.0 host

2 USB 2.0 hosts

1 x GbE Ethernet (with optional HAT support for Ethernet)

There is also a MIPI CSI camera connector and a MIPI DSI display connector (although the system only supports one display at a time, so it cannot be used if the HDMI port is used).

Other features include support for 24bit / 96 kHz audio, a 40-pin expansion connector, support for an optional RTC battery, and support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.

Radxa says the board measures 85 x 56 mm (3.3″ x 2.2″) and works with 5V / 3A USB Type-C power supplies, but if using an SSD on a computer, a 5V / 5A power supply is recommended.

Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said in a recent interview that next year is the year that Raspberry Pi and the entire industry recover from the supply chain problems of the past two years. , there will be no Raspberry Pi 5 next year.

Due to the shortage of chips, the Raspberry Pi 4 has suffered from a serious shortage of production capacity. Even with the price increase, the supply is still in short supply, which makes the Raspberry Pi Development Foundation very helpless. In an interview with ExplainingComputers, Eben Upton said hundreds of thousands of devices were ready to be reserved for retail customers during an 18-month period of “constrained supply” of the devices. He pointed out that the companies that mainly occupy the existing supply of Raspberry Pi equipment are not big companies, but “mom-and-pop shops” that produce hardware products based on the Raspberry Pi platform and purchase hundreds of Raspberry Pis to meet demand.

“Don’t expect a Pi 5 next year … Next year is a recovery year,” Upton said. “On the one hand, the supply chain has to slow us down. On the other hand, it slows everything down. .So I think it pays to take a year before we even think about launching anything … to take a year to recover from what just happened to all of us.”

It would be “a catastrophe” if the Pi 5 rollout fails to keep up with demand, or cannibalizes the capacity of other Raspberry Pi devices, Upton said.

Raspberry Pi, the Chinese name of Raspberry Pi, is a miniature single-board computer designed by engineers and computer scientists at the University of Cambridge. The purpose is to promote basic computer science education in schools with low-cost hardware and free software. In the 10 years since its release on February 28, 2012, it has gradually grown into a behemoth in the computer industry, and the Raspberry Pi ushered in its 10th anniversary on February 28, 2022.

Developer KonstaT has recently compiled a build of Android TV 13 for the Raspberry Pi. This ported version of Android TV is based on the third-party ROM Lineage OS and Android TV 13 Beta (not yet released), with a security patch for November 2022.

While the port lacks key features like video hardware acceleration and Cast, it is compatible with the Gapps package, which means you can get the Play Store, YouTube, and other key Google services up and running.

Interested users can download this compiled version and install it on Raspberry Pi 4 or Raspberry Pi 400, the new cost-effective personal portable Linux computer “in a keyboard”. However, to install this version, you need to set aside at least 2GB of space.

Due to the impact of chip shortage, Raspberry Pi 4 and its sister models have a serious shortage of capacity, even if the price increase is still in short supply, which also makes the Raspberry Pi Development Foundation is helpless, now the official has plans to change the status quo.

Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said in an interview with Micro Center, the high price is not conducive to the promotion of Raspberry Pi, so they will soon launch a number of upgrades. He expects that the full launch of the new Raspberry Pi in 12 months should be much better than now.

"Creative developers often prefer to use fully featured and affordable Raspberry Pi products, but for more than two years now they have been complaining about the high price and poor out-of-stock issues of the popular single board machine. As of today, even the smallest 1GB configuration of the Raspberry Pi 4 sells for over $100 on Amazon, but thanks to a slow recovery in the supply chain, this rather bad situation can finally come to an end."

He hinted that the new Raspberry Pi products will have more processing power, better graphics and more machine learning capabilities, but he did not equate those words with the Raspberry Pi 5.

The foreign media believe that, according to him, the new product, with the same features and direction, is a mere replacement product, which may be replaced by a cheaper chip, thus pulling down the price.

The Raspberry Pi (Raspberry Pi, abbreviated as RPi, alias RasPi / RPI) is designed for learning computer programming education, only the size of a credit card microcomputer, its system based on Linux. with the release of Windows 10 IoT, users can use the Raspberry Pi running Windows.

The Raspberry Pi 4 has been popular since its launch in 2019, but Fedora has not officially supported this Arm single-board computer through its Linux distribution. But now, since upstream open-source graphics acceleration is finally compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4, Fedora 37 may finally offer official support for the popular, low-cost development board in the true sense of the word.

Raspberry Pi 4 has met the needs of servers and IoT with Fedora Arm but has not been a major working target for Fedora workstations (desktops) on Raspberry Pi 4, as the lack of accelerated graphics support and other non-upstream features have been a barrier for them at the time. But now, with the arrival of the upstream kernel and Mesa for the Raspberry Pi 4, and other upstream improvements to handle this low-cost Arm SBC, the Fedora community is beginning to form a pending proposal for a change to “officially support the Raspberry Pi 4”.

The purpose of this proposed change is to provide more “official” support for Fedora Linux on the Raspberry Pi 4B/400/CM4 hardware. Improvements to the upstream open-source graphics drivers give good support for both OpenGL (ES) and Vulkan, and wired networking is getting better (on the wireless side, the Raspberry Pi has just released a new version with 802.11n support).
