At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, Honor Terminal Co., Ltd. CEO Zhao Ming announced that the upcoming Honor Magic6 will be equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform and support a 7 billion parameter AI terminal-side large model. , and for the first time demonstrated to the outside world some of the functions of the Honor phone’s large-scale AI model, as well as the upgrade of the MagicRing trust ring’s seamless flow experience across systems, devices, and applications.

Different from the large cloud-side AI model, the Honor on-device AI large model completes scenario-based task closed loops based on personalized understanding and perception. Its advantage is that it can better learn users’ personal data, and personal data does not come out or go to the cloud. Private information is more secure, and it is a personalized intelligent life form. At the same time, a personal knowledge base is accumulated on the terminal side, which can be transferred, inherited, and grown. As on-device AI learns and grows from users’ personal data and habits, it can bring about deeper understanding of intentions and more personalized services in complex scenarios.

According to reports, this in-depth cooperation between Honor and Qualcomm mainly focuses on joint innovation in aspects such as performance, power consumption and user privacy, and promotes better deployment of large AI models on the device side. In terms of performance, the two parties jointly optimize the inference performance of large-scale AI models on the end-side to fully release the computing power of the end-side NPU. In terms of power consumption, they jointly optimize end-side NPU scheduling to make large model applications smooth and save power. Finally, in terms of privacy and security In terms of aspects, the two parties jointly optimize the data path protection of end-side AI large model applications to ensure the absolute security of user privacy.

Zhao Ming announced at this summit that Honor Magic6 uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform and will support a large device-side AI model with 7 billion parameters, creating a new era of generative AI. At present, Honor’s large-scale client-side AI model can provide users with personalized services based on the understanding and perception of user preferences. Combined with multi-modal natural interaction, Honor Magic6 can understand user intentions more accurately and three-dimensionally, and can cognitively learn images and texts. and complex semantics, bringing user-specific intelligent services for thousands of people.

Honor demonstrated its on-device AI capabilities at the summit, including smart tablets and smart capsules, as well as upgraded functions brought by the MagicRing trust ring, such as camera cross-device sharing, App cross-device drag and drop, etc., allowing cross-system , the seamless flow experience across devices and applications goes further.

According to reports, Honor’s smart movie-making function can intelligently detect and filter pictures and videos in the gallery based on user preferences and key nodes, and actively match music subtitles to make movies with one click. Honor Smart Capsule is an interesting function developed based on the low power consumption capabilities of Qualcomm chips and Honor’s unique eye movement control technology. For example, when a taxi notification appears on the top capsule, users only need to glance at it to automatically open the card. Once you see the license plate number and arrival time, keep watching and the card will be further expanded to the App, making it easier for users to operate with one hand.

This upgrade of the MagicRing trust ring is mainly reflected in the comprehensive management and seamless transmission of connected devices such as cameras, Pads, and PCs. The continuously upgraded MagicRing trust ring technology brings more types of data transmission, with more stable signals and lower energy consumption. For example, high-definition phone cameras can be shared on the PC, and files can be dragged across the screen and edited at will on phones, Pads, and PCs.

It is noticed that Honor also exposed the appearance design of the Honor Magic6 series in advance. The machine will be equipped with a center-punch screen and support the Honor Smart Capsule function.

The Geekbench 6 Vulkan running score of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor was leaked recently, and the performance is very impressive. The chip scored 15,434 points, a roughly 50 percent improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s roughly 10,000 points.

This score is in line with previous rumors that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s Adreno 750 GPU will offer a 50% performance improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s Adreno 740 GPU.

However, according to blogger @digitalchatstation, “The performance is based on performance, and the actual improvement is not that big. This generation is a regular iteration. TSMC N4P is making steady progress, but the GPU is still far ahead.”

The GPU of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is already faster than the A16 Bionic, and the GPU of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has another huge upgrade. It seems that Qualcomm will continue to maintain its lead in GPU over Apple.

As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, its performance will also be improved due to its different architecture and higher clock speed. Its multi-core Geekbench score is said to have increased from around 3828 to around 7000 points, which is close to the A17 Pro. However, the single-core performance of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is still not as good as the A17 Pro. The leaked Galaxy S24 Plus running score shows only 2005 points, which is far lower than the 2958 points of the iPhone 15 Pro.
