Philips Hue is usually at Berlin’s International Consumer Electronics Show to launch new products. Now, Signify CEO Eric Long Dorat revealed: Philips Hue will enter the security field, and will launch the first monitoring products.

Rondolat hopes to integrate cameras and lighting systems so that “a burglar in the house triggers the alarm and all the lights are flashing red. Why is this interesting? Because the audible alarm is mounted inside the house, so it can’t be heard from a distance, but the lights can.”

At the same time, Philips Hue’s cameras and security products should also be able to be used for lighting – for example, cameras in the home could detect moving objects and automatically activate the lighting system, similar to what Hue motion sensors currently do.

Data privacy and security are important in this process. As a result, says Londolat, “Our camera will be the first to be encrypted end-to-end.” This means that the manufacturer itself won’t be able to decrypt video that may be stored in the cloud.

Philips brand lighting products and services have been licensed to the global lighting industry leader Signify Xinnofei, which is now “Philips Hue”, the product covers from the home, office and industrial to the street lighting, garden lighting, sports place lighting and other lighting applications.
