The arrival of the new sixth season “Invasion”, “Overwatch 2” has officially landed on the Steam platform, and has also undergone a major update, adding a large number of new modes, new stories, and new heroes and new maps.

However, after a large number of players scored, “Overwatch 2” has given a 9% favorable rate after nearly 100,000 comments on Steam, successfully surpassing “Three Kingdoms”.

Activision Blizzard’s latest financial report confirms that Overwatch 2 player engagement and spending has begun to show a downward trend. While this is a bit of a worry for investors, developers don’t seem to care too much.

In an interview with IGN, Overwatch executive producer Jared Neuss said Invasion was the turning point in Overwatch 2’s transition from early access to a “full” live-service game.

Neuss attributed the drop in player engagement to Overwatch 2’s free-to-play model. “We’ve seen the normal ups and downs of the players. It doesn’t matter to me or the team,” he said.

“We’ve added a lot of content to Overwatch 2: Invasion, and it’s been a lot of fun” “We’re doing it because we’re experimenting with different seasonal structures, and one of the things we really want to know is, What if we put all these things together, these great content and different expressions of the game?”

“For us, it’s really not like ‘Oh, it all depends on this’. For us, it’s really about, what does a good season look like? We’ve tried a lot, Right? We tried a very thematic approach in season five. We also tried different things in seasons two and three.”

“So it’s not so much about the up and down of Overwatch 2: Invasion, it’s more about what we think is the right rhythm and rhythm and how we create these big moments for the players.”

He said that “Watching Pioneer 2: Invasion” introduced the next level of the game’s story, and these tasks need to be unlocked for $15 (currently about RMB 109). Blizzard has stated that Overwatch 2 will likely not have new story missions for at least the next two seasons following the release of Invasion.

Previously, it was expected that Overwatch 2’s “Invasion” update would draw players back to the game. However, the executive producer claims that the team is under no pressure to launch a season that will allow players to reach a higher level of engagement. Instead, the team is focused on delivering a variety of content and making sure it lives up to the high expectations of Overwatch players.

After shutting down Overwatch 2 servers twice on Thursday to fix some issues, Blizzard performed maintenance again on Friday. Officials said that the game may experience an hour-long downtime for maintenance around 9 p.m. that night. In a post on its own forum, Blizzard gave a detailed explanation, including engineering fixes and related updates for some of the larger issues.

As planned, Blizzard hopes to fix an issue with the Watchpoint Pack not being available to pre-order players when it shuts down late Friday, as well as an LC-208 error that prevents some players from logging into the game.

In addition, in a post on Friday, Blizzard confirmed that its SMS Protect mobile phone number binding policy change has officially gone into effect, previously “Overwatch 2” players only needed to provide a postpaid phone number during account registration to play.

But after an outcry, Blizzard finally relented, allowing players who have played “Overwatch 1” through a Battle.net account to experience the sequel without registering a phone number.

Meanwhile, Blizzard is also investigating an issue where players may experience long waits before matches. To that end, the company is actively tweaking the configuration within the system, hoping to bring some degree of relief.

As for Thursday’s two maintenance outages, Blizzard remains fairly optimistic. The changes quadrupled the capacity and ultimately reduced login queues overnight, the forum post said.

Blizzard will continue to keep a close eye on this in the coming days. Especially the influx of players on weekends will pose a greater challenge to the Overwatch 2 servers.

After the first week of the game’s technical beta, Blizzard has announced a number of changes for Overwatch 2. The first in a series of planned weekly updates, the studio behind Overwatch 2 has shown what it has learned so far and how player feedback is helping to shape the development of the project.

Blizzard has claimed that “most heroes are falling into a healthy range overall for play rate and win rate across different skill levels.” They were also able to identify several outliners which will be targeted to balance the patch schedule, in the latter half of this week.

They also clarified, “We have heard clearly that support players feel both tanks and damage players have more new content to enjoy and explore in this Beta. Longer-term, we believe the most effective way to tackle this issue is to add exciting new support heroes to the game, and that is part of our plans.”

Blizzard has said that existing support heroes will probably get new and refreshed abilities during the beta testing. But these changes will likely be kept for implementation during the next stage of the test. The current Overwatch 2 beta will run until May 17th and will only be available for PC. But Blizzard has shared its idea to include console players for all future tests.

Now, the OverWatch 2 beta includes; the usual 5v5 PvP mode, the new push mode, ping system, four hero reworks (orisa, Doomfist, Bastion, Sombra), A new her (Sojourn), all OW1 maps, and four new maps(Circuit Royal, Midtown, Toronto, and Rome).

Both the Fire and Medal systems of Overwatch 2 have been shelved by Blizzard, which included a reworked scoreboard screen that matches other competitive games. Lastly, they said that “For Overwatch 2, players can expect the new scoreboard screen to display key statistics in real-time for all players in the game. These statistics include eliminations, assists, deaths, damage, damage mitigated, and healing.”

“The team may also look at reworking the Fire system sometime in the future to complement the scoreboard system as we believe it can provide excitement for high-performing players.” The Overwatch 2 has been delayed until at least 2023, as announced by Blizzard last November.
