There has been news that Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro series will feature solid-state buttons, but renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted in April that Apple had removed the solid-state button design from this year’s iPhone due to “unresolved technical issues” and returned to the original solid button design.

This news was also mentioned by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter. While the iPhone 15 Pro did come with the new buttons, they have been “deprecated” from the production version.

He cites “manufacturing complexity, higher associated costs and software integration issues” as the main reasons for the delay, and Gurman claims that the feature is destined for adoption next year, presumably with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

So far, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will feature a narrower bezel, a titanium body with more rounded edges, a new 3nm A17 processor, and a USB-C port.

In addition, Gurman touched on the low-cost iPhone issue that is on everyone’s mind. Commenting on Apple’s earnings report, he noted that the Indian market has become critical for Apple. But in reality, Apple’s iPhone pricing in India is more expensive than in the US.

He argued that while Apple may never launch a new iPhone for less than $300 (Currently about RMB 2073), it could sell its older SE model as a cost-effective alternative, and he suggested that Apple drop the previous version to $199 (currently about RMB 1375).

Apple last year said its recycling robot Daisy can recycle 200 iPhones per hour and can recycle 1.2 million iPhones per year.

The Fully Charged Show, an electric vehicle and sustainability YouTube channel, recently visited Daisy to get an in-depth look at how it works.

The video explains how to reduce the mining of metal materials through recycling, shows the Liam 1 and Liam 2 prototypes, and how Daisy punches screws, freezes and destroys batteries, sorts iPhone modules, and more.

Apple says 20% of iPhone materials are made from recycled materials, with the goal that eventually all new iPhones will be made from 100% recycled materials.

Apple has increased its investment in sports events and has already purchased the rights to stream many sports events, including MLB Friday Night Baseball and MLS Season Pass.

In February, news broke that Apple was “interested” in buying NBA streaming rights. But according to a new report from foreign tech media outlet The Information, Apple has not yet decided whether to participate in the bidding, even though the NBA has been selling the rights to several streaming platforms.

The report that the NBA plans to sell streaming rights, including exclusive streaming rights in the United States and rights to two U.S. TV channels, in the hope of increasing revenue more than threefold.

The NBA currently works primarily with ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery for its U.S. TV channels, but both of those companies are looking to reduce spending and have suggested cutting sports spending as a way to do so.

Amazon and Google have expressed interest in bidding for the NBA’s streaming rights, and reports indicate that Apple has not yet made a decision on whether it will bid for NBA broadcast rights.

Samsung Galaxy Watch is the physical rotating bezel, but Samsung abandoned this design in last year’s Galaxy Watch 5 series, leaving many users very disappointed.

According to the latest news, the physical rotating bezel will return in the next generation of Samsung watches!

▲ Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

According to Korean tipster @SuperRoader (who has been accurate on several occasions), Samsung will bring back the physical rotating bezel this year, but it will only be available on the Galaxy Watch 6 Pro.

The leak also says that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Pro will be available in two sizes (the previous generation was only available in a 45mm version), so there could be a smaller Pro watch, which is good news for many users who don’t like buying larger watches.

According to previous breaking news, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 6 series of smartwatches at the Galaxy Unpacked event this August.

The battery capacity of the 40 mm version of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, model SM-R93x and 44 mm version SM-R94x, has been revealed.

The 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 6 uses the EB-BR935ABY battery with a nominal capacity of 300mAh, compared to 284mAh for the 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 5.

The 44mm version of the Galaxy Watch 6 uses the EB-BR945ABY battery with a nominal capacity of 425mAh, compared to the 44mm version of the Galaxy Watch 5 with a capacity of 410mAh.

In addition, the leak also says that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series will return to the curved screen design used on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, possibly using a Huaxing display.

Cybersecurity researchers from the Horizon3 Attack Team have published a proof-of-concept (POC) vulnerability that exists in many VMware products.

According to the report, the CVE-2022-47966 vulnerability could allow an attacker to remotely execute code without authentication in ManageEngine servers that have the same-based single sign-on (SSO) protocol enabled at some point in the past, so turning off the feature would not solve any problems.

The researchers note that the vulnerable endpoint uses an outdated third-party dependency called Apache Santuario, which is what allows an attacker to remotely execute code through the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM identity, thereby taking full control of the system.

As it stands, the vulnerability is easy to exploit and is a favorable way for attackers to “‘spray and pray” online. The vulnerability allows remote execution of code as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, essentially allowing an attacker to take full control of the system,” the researchers warned.

“If a user determines that their information has been compromised, additional investigation is required to determine the damage caused by the attacker. Once an attacker gains system-level access to an endpoint, the attacker may begin to perform lateral transfers by dumping credentials via LSASS or by leveraging existing public tools to access stored application credentials.”

Zoho has now released the corresponding patch, so users who need it should download it as soon as possible.

It is worth mentioning that researchers searching through Shodan for unpatched endpoints still found “thousands” of vulnerable instances of the ManageEngine product, ServiceDesk Plus and Endpoint Central, so we hope you will be vigilant.

There have been no reports of malicious exploitation of CVE-2022-47966 in the industry, but if IT administrators choose to ignore this vulnerability, there will be victims sooner rather than later.

In early 2020, Micron’s software engineers announced HSE, an open-source storage engine designed for SSDs and persistent memory, a fast key-value storage database. HSE 2.0 debuted last year and no longer relies on modifications to the Linux kernel in favor of a completely user-space-based solution.

This week, Micron released HSE 3.0, an open-source storage engine that brings even more feature improvements.

HSE 3.0 is described as having improved data management and enhanced performance for a variety of critical workloads. In addition, the HSE 3.0 engine is optimized for performance around workloads with monotonically increasing keys (such as time series data), multi-client workloads, the ability to store compressed and uncompressed values together, and other performance improvements.

Java language bindings are now available for the HSE 3.0 API, and Python bindings have been updated to accommodate these API changes.

HSE is a fast embedded key-value store designed for SSDs and persistent memory said Micron. HSE optimizes performance and endurance by coordinating data placement across DRAM and multiple classes of solid-state storage.

Zuckerberg said the company has essentially grown rapidly every year for the past 18 years, and then recently revenues have been flat or slightly down for the first time. From what we’ve seen, the U.S. economy hasn’t plateaued yet, so hopefully, the plan is to start getting a little more conservative.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, Meta Platform Chairman and CEO Zuckerberg announced during his regular weekly meeting with employees that Meta is freezing hiring, will restructure its staff and team, cut costs and shift priorities.

Zuckerberg announced the social networking company’s freeze during a weekly question-and-answer session with employees, according to an attendee. Meta’s further cost-cutting and hiring freeze were its clearest statements. Meta’s revenue pillar, advertising revenue growth, is slowing at the moment amid growing competition for users, and Meta said earlier this year that it plans to slow hiring for some management positions and delay giving out full-time jobs to summer interns. Zuckerberg warned in July that Meta would “steadily reduce headcount growth” and that “many teams will be scaled back so we can shift our efforts to other areas.

Meta shares fell 4% during the day after the news broke, approaching their recent lows. The stock eventually closed down 3.67% at $136.41.

Zuckerberg said:

"We basically grew rapidly every year for the first 18 years of the company's existence, and then recently our revenues were flat or slightly down for the first time. I had hoped that by now the economy would have stabilized more significantly, but from what we've seen, it doesn't seem to have, so we're hoping to plan to start getting a little more conservative."

Meta’s internal priorities include Reels on Instagram, which Meta released in the short-form video space to compete with TikTok, and Zuckerberg’s plans for the future of the Internet, known as the metaverse. In a previous move to reduce spending, the company’s dual-camera watch, made to compete with the Apple Watch, was shut down.

As of June 30, Meta had more than 83,500 employees and added 5,700 new hires in the second quarter.

Last week, media reports said Meta began quietly laying off employees by reorganizing its departments while allowing “reorganized” employees to apply for other positions within the company.

Zuckerberg had hinted back in June that Meta might not be expanding rapidly in terms of hiring again.

"In fact, there are probably a lot of people in the company who shouldn't be here."

On Thursday, most tech leaders also plunged, with the exception of Meta.

Growth tech stocks sensitive to interest rates plunged. Among the leading tech stocks, Tesla fell more than 7% intraday, led by its sector, and Apple fell more than 5% intraday after being downgraded by Bank of America from Buy to Neutral and cut its price target due to weaker iPhone demand. The Nasdaq closed down 2.84% at 10,737.51 points, a new closing low since June 16, approaching the low set on June 16 since September 2020.
