Some users have reported that the “cheap version” of third-party controllers they bought can no longer be used on Xbox consoles.

It is noticed that some brands that produce third-party gaming accessories, such as Brook Gaming, have already felt the pressure of this change. They released a statement on the X saying that some of their products were malfunctioning on the Xbox and promising that their engineering team was working hard to find a solution.

It should be pointed out that officially verified third-party accessories will not be affected by this policy, such as Turtle Beach, Lucid Sound, Razer, etc., which are commonly found on our “Best Xbox Headset” and “Best Xbox Controller” lists Brand, it is unclear whether this policy will affect those XIM accessories that can simulate mouse and keyboard input.

Microsoft today launched a new October firmware update for Xbox game consoles and Xbox Windows applications, bringing users the long-awaited function of mapping controllers to keyboard keys.

The keymapping feature supports the Xbox Elite Controller 2nd Generation and the Xbox Accessible Controller, and players can use the Xbox Accessories app to map the controller’s buttons.

“Keyboard remapping has been a long-requested feature from the PC gaming and accessibility communities, and it helps scale games with many commands, limited remapping capabilities, or no controller support,” Xbox lead team manager Jonathan Hildebrandt said in a blog post.

It is discovered that another new feature of the October firmware update is the ability to import game screen recordings into Windows 11’s built-in video editor Clipchamp.

Within the “Import Media” section of Clipchamps, players will now find an “Xbox” tab that allows them to browse and import videos saved on Xbox cloud storage and make simple edits.

Additionally, Microsoft is updating the diagnostic data controls available to Xbox players to an account-based process. Users only need to select once and other devices such as Xbox consoles, Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta), PCs, and mobile devices will automatically update to use the same diagnostic data sending settings.

The October firmware update also brings an experimental feature where selected players will be able to send party invitations from their profile page and join friends’ games without having to browse their friends list.

Microsoft’s acquisition of game developer and publisher Activision Blizzard deal has been completed, but the outside world wondered whether Microsoft will soon add Activision Blizzard some new games to its Xbox Game Pass service. Today, Microsoft’s Xbox chief Phil Spencer finally gave a definitive answer, but unfortunately, we’ll have to wait at least a few more months.

In the latest official Xbox podcast video, Spencer admitted that Microsoft put some of their games on Xbox Game Pass soon after they acquired Bethesda in 2021. However, this is not the case with Activision Blizzard. He said:

In fact, the regulatory process took a long time because of Activision Blizzard King (Activision Blizzard King). And frankly, it was only the week before or the week of our closing that the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) made its final decision, so we didn't have the ability to work with -- primarily Activision and Blizzard -- to deal with their older titles. So it's only now that the deal is done that we're starting that work. But it's going to take time.

Spencer said that Activision Blizzard’s statement released last week that its games would be on Game Pass shelves in 2024 was accurate.

Spencer admitted that it’s “a little bit frustrating” not to be able to put newly acquired games on Xbox Game Pass right away, but he’s excited about the future, “I just want to be honest with everybody and say that’s where we’re at right now.”

The Xbox podcast interview covers a lot of ground, with Spencer saying he’ll be doing a lot of travelling over the next few days, visiting King’s offices in Europe and then Blizzard and Activision’s offices in California. He also talked about some of the game series he wants people to rediscover, such as Zork, a text adventure game developed by Infocom, or King’s Quest, developed by Sierra. He says: “Because of my age, these things mean something to me. Because they’re very important moments in my gaming career, my gaming experience, and I love those.”

Although Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console is “old”, it can still exert some “value” outside of games.

According to the FBI, a former financial analyst named Anthony Viggiano used the Xbox 360 online chat feature to send illegal insider trading messages in a multiplayer game. He was arrested earlier this week on eight counts of security fraud and one count of conspiracy.

On inquiry about the FBI indictment and it is found that Anthony Viggiano sent illegal insider financial trading information to his childhood friend Christopher Salamone from July 2021 to May 2023 while working as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs.

The FBI investigated the pair in June 2023, and a recording of the interview revealed that the pair thought chatting using an Xbox 360 gaming console would not be traced.

Anthony Viggiano’s alleged insider trading would have been discovered regardless of the method used, the FBI said. If he is found guilty, each securities fraud charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Salamone is charged with three counts of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy.

Microsoft Xbox responsible person Phil Spencer in the Tokyo Game Show during the foreign media Game Watch interview, asked whether Xbox Game Pass (XGP) will rise in price in the future, Spencer said it is inevitable, “although the main premise is to provide more value, but I think the future price increase is inevitable. We recently raised prices once, but it was a well-thought-out decision. We think it’s important to provide services perceived as of sufficient value, even if prices go up.”

A foreign media raised a “bold” question: “the future will play Nintendo, PlayStation and Steam games on XGP?” Spencer said, “First of all, as far as PC Game Pass is concerned since it’s on the same PC platform as Steam, we think it gives users options. As for PlayStation and Nintendo, it’s more difficult than Steam.”

“However, since we’re also a publisher that delivers games to PlayStation and Nintendo, I think it’s important to think about how we deliver Xbox games to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms as well.” He noted.

In response to concerns about mandatory subscriptions in the future, Spencer believes that what’s being offered is choice and that the real success of Xbox lies in the fact that more people are playing Xbox games that aren’t limited to XGP, whether it’s on Xbox consoles, PCs, cloud gaming, or other consoles. “We want to expand the Xbox gaming community.”
