This function relies on the synchronization function of the browser, so a Microsoft account needs to be registered.

Microsoft added Drop to the browser’s sidebar, which users can enable and configure from the sidebar settings page. This page can be accessed via Menu > Settings > Sidebar, or directly load its internal address edge://settings/sidebar in Edge’s address bar.

Edge users who are not logged in will see a login prompt when they select Delete. A short introductory screen is shown when first accessing the feature, after which you’ll be redirected to the main Drop interface.

This interface explains two core features of the Drop functionality.

The first feature is to write notes in the Edge text box, and the content of the note will be added to Notes.

Notes appear on the sidebar, similar to how notes appear in the Messages app. The main difference here is that all notes are private and only visible to logged in users.

The second feature is to support drag and drop to add files, or you can add one or more files by selecting the plus button in the Drop interface and selecting from the local device.

All notes and files are listed in chronological order in the interface. Notes can only be copied or deleted, there are no editing options at the time of writing. Files has a prominent Open link and an expanded menu that supports options to open the file on a folder or OneDrive, open it with an associated application, copy it, or delete it.

So where are these files stored? The Edge right-click menu shows that these notes are all stored on OneDrive. Microsoft has created a new root folder on OneDrive called Microsoft Edge Drop Files. There, users can find all lost files and all written notes. Data syncs like any other OneDrive file.

While it was always possible to open several Edge windows to view multiple tabs at the same time, however the new split-screen feature will be easier to use, eliminating the need to drag tabs and windows, and also allowing you to resize split tabs and open links side-by-side.

This is not the first time Microsoft has allowed two pages to open in one window, with the recently introduced Edge sidebar allowing users to add and fix websites for quick access.

How to enable Microsoft Edge Split Screen.

Install Microsoft Edge Beta, Dev or Canary.

Go to edge://flags/#edge-split-screen and set the flag to Enabled.

Restart your browser.

Open any web page and click the split screen button on the toolbar. The browser will open a new tab next to the current page.

Alternatively, right-click on any link and choose to open the link in a split-screen window.

You can exit the split screen by clicking the X button (this will close the page) or by pressing the “… ” button and choosing to view the split screen page in both tabs.
