Beijing, July 20 morning news, the U.S. company MetaX LLC reportedly sued Meta for trademark infringement, it said the company’s business has been hit badly since Facebook launched the new Meta name. According to MetaX, MetaX’s AR and VR business has been severely disrupted since Facebook changed its name in October 2021, as Meta Platforms is much larger, eclipsing MetaX.

MetaX appealed to a Manhattan court, asking Meta Platforms to stop using the Meta name and that Meta not profit from the “Meta” name.

Founded in 2010 as MetaX, an immersive, experiential technology company that provides consulting, planning and production services for immersive events and exhibitions, Facebook changed its name to Meta primarily because it looked good for the growth of the metaverse industry.

According to MetaX, before the name change, Meta Platforms knew MetaX existed and understood what MetaX did. In August 2017, Meta Platforms employees had complimented MetaX and the company’s immersive experience in an email.

In response to a letter sent by MetaX in December 2021, Meta Platforms responded that the two companies offer completely different products and services and can coexist in harmony.
