A sea-change is taking effect at Mercedez Benz as it changes it decides to change its strategy to focus more on the segment of luxury cars. The company calls it the new Entry Luxury segment and the future would have the company manufacturing more in these segment over its smaller segment cars such as the A and B class.

Mercedez Benz: All-electric C class

Mercedes’s plan to come up with the all-electric C class still prevails as that is its best bet at turning away the market from Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. The newest in this line-up will likely be called the EQC Sedan that is slated to be launched in 2024. The car is expected to borrow a lot of the technology that had been rolled out in the EQXX concept. Till this launches, the title of the smallest all-electric Mercedes is held by the EQE. Any smaller a version than this is offered only by the plug-in hybrid, the Class C300e. But the company would very well be aware that only a real EV can cut the mustard when it comes to matching up with cars such as the Tesla Model 3 or the BMW i4.

Mercedez Benz Modular Architecture

Any car manufactured under the new Entry Luxury segment would try the company’s brand new dedicated EV platform. Contrary to the current trend of EVs using tweaked ICE platforms, this new Mercedez-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) is purely EV dedicated but yet thoughtfully designed to be compatible with ICE cars. Being modular, it can be used across segments from small to large cars.

The shape disclosed by the company reveals EQC as a slightly taller EQXX. The small size of the battery will be covered up by improved efficiency and hopefully a higher power density. With a full thrust of an aerodynamic design, the company is ensuring the EQC Sedan is as light as possible to build up on an impressive range.
