The new vehicle is the flagship SUV of the current EQ family and is available in a 7-seat version in addition to a 5-seat version.

For reference, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is currently priced at $104,400-$125,950 overseas, or about RMB 708,000-$854,000, which is close to the starting price of the EQS sedan overseas.

The current domestic Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan pricing is 1.845 million – 1.134 million yuan, is expected EQS SUV domestic pricing compared to this figure is slightly higher.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS is positioned as a 7-seat luxury SUV, with an all-wheel drive version offering 536 horsepower and a single-motor rear-wheel version with a range of 410 miles (about 659.83 km), equipped with a 107.8kWh battery and supporting fast charging (200 kW), which can be charged from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

Like the EQS sedan, the new car features three screens, primarily for the driver, center console and passenger use, and optional rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions with more power, up to 536 hp, up from 355 hp for the single-motor version.

The Mercedes EQS SUV is huge by comparison, measuring over 16.5 feet (503.25 cm) long and weighing in at 7,716 pounds (3.5 tons), and offers all the features you’d expect in a $100,000 luxury vehicle, such as passenger seats with massage and heating, a display screen, signature interior lighting and more.

The EQS SUV has more interior space (especially in the third row) and more passenger comfort than the Tesla Model X, but it’s far less powerful than the nearly as expensive Tesla Model X Plaid. However, Mercedes is developing an AMG model that is expected to compete with Tesla.

The Mercedes EQA sedan has now completed winter track testing in Scandinavia, and a few spy shots have been taken of the model. The new car is covered in camouflage stickers and basically, no useful details can be seen.

From previous reports, the new car may be officially unveiled in 2024 and could be seen as an all-electric alternative to the A-Class saloon. The new car was also previously known as the ‘new Mercedes EQA’, but the latest news suggests that Mercedes may drop the ‘EQ’ nomenclature in the future, the new car may adopt a new name.

In terms of exterior design, the new pure electric compact car will be built using the latest Mercedes-Benz design concept and will have a more recognizable design, with the body shape expected to have a sportier look by incorporating coupe-like sliding elements. The interior design will also be further enhanced with technology and is expected to feature the MB.

Like the Vision EQXX concept, the production car is expected to have a more aerodynamic design and will probably be available as a single-motor and dual-motor four-wheel drive model.

Updating the online configurator, Mercedes Benz has come up with further variants on its electric model EQE. A new price list dated July 5th enlists a total of six variants that includes two entry models EQE 300 and EQE 350. Both models utilize a smaller 89 kWh battery instead of the 90.6 one in EQE 350+, EQE 500 4 MATIC and two AMG models. While the larger EQS has up to twelve modules, the new smaller version would likely have at least ten, though this fact has not been confirmed directly by the company.

Mercedes did not also confirm the reason for this change in usable energy content. There could be multiple reasons. The cells in the EQE 300 and EQE 350 are likely to be sourced from a different supplier and this could help us understand the small difference of one and a half kilowatt-hours. It could also be as simple as the use of different software and the buffer on those batteries was increased. This is also likely, as companies are seen doing this to commit better capacity retention over time. When the battery degrades, the loss in capacity can be compensated by minimizing the buffer.

The new price list finds EQE 300 being listed with 89kWh with a nominal output of 180kW. WLTP has valued the range between 550 and 639 kilometres. The same battery in the EQE 350 offers an output of 217 kW with the WLTP range staying exactly the same as that for EQE 300. In bringing these new transitions, Mercedes has given away the EQE350+ variant with 90.56 kWh and 215 kW rear-wheel drive. As this version still holds the fort for the longest range, none of the new variants qualify to add the “+” to their names, as in Mercedes this symbol signifies the variant with the longest range.
