Apple in the macOS Sonoma update log, said for the 13-inch MacBook Air equipped with the M2 chip updated battery health management, optimized to improve the long-term health of the battery.

Apple did not specify other details of the optimization, according to previous media releases Apple released the new MacBook Air in July 2022, following no widespread battery health complaints.

The Battery Health Management content below:

The Battery Health Management feature has been carefully designed to extend the life of your battery by slowing down the rate of chemical aging. This feature accomplishes this by monitoring the battery’s temperature history and charging patterns.

Depending on the measurements collected, the Battery Health Management feature may temporarily reduce the maximum charge level of the battery. This occurs on an as-needed basis to ensure that the battery is charged to a level that is optimized for your usage, thereby reducing wear and tear on the battery and slowing the rate of chemical aging.

Apple launched a new 13-inch MacBook Air notebook with an M2 chip in July 2022, which initially only supported Bluetooth 5.0 technology. According to Apple’s official updated technical specifications, the notebook is now upgraded to support the faster and more reliable 5.3 standards.

Apple introduced the 15-inch MacBook Air at this year’s WWDC developer conference and has since updated its technical specifications page to show that the 13-inch model also supports Bluetooth 5.3.

All new Mac, iPhone, iPad Pro, Apple Watch and second-generation AirPods Pro models released by Apple since September 2022 support Bluetooth 5.3.

Bluetooth 5.3 has lower latency, better anti-interference, improved battery life, improved transmission efficiency, security, and stability, and the following improvements to Bluetooth 5.3:

  • Low-speed connections: Some data transfers cannot be passed in Bluetooth 5.2 due to the low speed. Bluetooth 5.3 solves this problem, allowing low-power and low-speed signals to be used. ex: It mainly appears on some medical equipment such as blood glucose meters. The emergence of 5.3 greatly optimizes medical work.
  • Enhanced encryption control: For some open signals, ex: access control, commercial lighting and other equipment.
  • Bluetooth 5.3 has increased its encryption key length control options, improving security. At the same time, because the administrator control is simpler, it can be faster when connecting.
  • Periodic broadcast enhancement: Bluetooth 5.2 needs to periodically broadcast to connected devices. And Bluetooth 5.3 will improve broadcast stability so you can do more with your broadcast time.

According to The Elec, Samsung Display is developing a 13.3-inch OLED panel for future MacBook Air models, and plans to gradually convert multiple Apple product lines to OLED.

In addition to the Macbook, LG Display is also developing OLED screens for the next-generation 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro, but lacked sufficient capacity to produce the OLED panels needed for the MacBook Air, which led Apple to eventually choose Samsung.

Samsung Display is also reportedly planning to develop an 11-inch OLED panel for next year’s iPad, suggesting that Samsung Display may be able to grab some orders for the 11-inch “iPad Pro” from LG Display.

According to current developments, Apple is preparing to launch new OLED versions of the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models.

The Elec is not sure when the OLED MacBook Air will be released, but they think it could take about two years. Display industry analyst Ross Young previously said he expects the “MacBook Air” with OLED panels to launch in 2024.

It is said that Apple initially wanted Samsung to provide a 10.86-inch OLED panel for the iPad Air, which would have been its first OLED iPad, but Apple eventually cancelled the project due to the cost and production capacity of single-layer OLEDs, as well as the need to take into account the differentiation between the iPad Air and iPad Pro. Apple is now said to have moved to a more reliable dual-layer OLED panel, which is expected to debut on the “iPad Pro” next year.

The report points out that Samsung’s project to develop a 13.3-inch OLED panel for the MacBook Air is actually a test for the mass production of OLED panels for future MacBook Pro models.

Apple Macbook Air 2024

Ming-Chi Kuo also said that Samsung Display plans to significantly boost OLED panel shipments for laptops in 2023, aiming for a 70% YoY (year-over-year) increase to 6-7 million units in 2023.

Ming-Chi Kuo explained why Apple chose the MacBook Air over the MacBook Pro. Laptops with OLED offer the advantage of being thinner and lighter than mini-LED, and offer more diverse form factor options,” he said.

Thinness is far more important to MacBook Air than it is to MacBook Pro. This allows Apple to focus on upgrading the display technology in the MacBook Air before choosing to upgrade the MacBook Pro.

In recent times, we have often heard rumors about the new MacBook Air, but some of its details are still unclear. 9to5Mac has now obtained some evidence that Apple is indeed developing a new MacBook Air in two different sizes: 13-inch and 15-inch.

Not only that, but the company is also said to be planning an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro model. So, what do these laptops have in common? The latest intelligence suggests that they will all be powered by the new M3 chip.

As shown in the figure below, Apple’s current MacBook Air can choose M1 chip or M2 chip, with 13.3-inch and 13.6-inch screens respectively. Among them, the new M2 model adopts the “notch” design, and the price starts from 9499 yuan. It does not rule out that the new opportunity is more expensive possible.

Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that a MacBook Air update was “imminent” and that at least one new model would feature the M3 chip.

According to news obtained by 9to5Mac, the new 13-inch MacBook Air (codenamed J513) confirmed to use the M3 chip will be released alongside the new 15-inch model (codenamed J515), and this large-screen model will also be equipped with the M3 chip.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said that Apple could release the 15-inch MacBook Air in “early April.” According to 9to5Mac’s sources, the 15-inch model will feature the same entry-level M3 chip as the new 13-inch MacBook Air. The chip will offer an 8-core CPU, just like the M1 and M2.

Sadly, there’s no evidence yet that the new MacBook Air will offer an M3 Pro-like chip option, but those aren’t the only new machines Apple is currently working on.

Apple is also planning a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, code-named J504, and the new entry-level MacBook Pro, code-named J504, will also be powered by the same eight-core M3 chip as the MacBook Air, the 9to5Mac source said.

It is not clear when Apple will launch these new Macs, but we consider that the M3 chip will be based on the latest TSMC 3nm build, which is not only more expensive but also cannot guarantee high yield, so we think these M3 chip-based models It may not appear until the second half of this year.

However, considering that the M2 chip was released together with the new MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro at WWDC 2022, it would not be too surprising if Apple chose to launch a new machine at WWDC this year.

Demand for displays in consumer products is shrinking, while demand for mini-LEDs for other uses is rising, as Apple intends to shift its iPad and MacBook production lines to OLED displays in the next few years, said one of the company’s major mini-LED suppliers.

The DigiTimes report cites industry sources at Epistar, which has been supplying mini-LED displays to Apple for some time, as saying that demand for mini-LED displays for consumer electronics is declining and that demand for mini-LED displays for dashboards and automotive displays is expected to spike in 2023.

Reports indicate that Samsung is now prioritizing the development of a specific type of OLED display that Apple plans to use in the new iPad Pro model. According to DigiTimes, Apple is expected to announce the first iPad Pro with an OLED display in 2024, prompting mini-LED suppliers to look at other areas of application for their displays.

In addition to the OLED iPad Pro, Apple is also expected to launch the MacBook Air 13-inch with an OLED display in 2024, according to the leak. According to to display analyst Ross Young, Apple is also considering using OLED panels in the new iPhone SE model but is still discussing whether to use LCD or OLED displays.

According to display industry analyst Ross Young, Apple plans to launch the new MacBook Air 13-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch models with OLED displays in 2024.

Ross Young did not share additional details, but earlier this year he said all three devices will have a “two-layer” OLED display with two red, green and blue emitting layers to increase brightness and reduce power consumption.

Newer iPad Pro models already have ProMotion with 24Hz to 120Hz refresh rates, and ProMotion will be all new on the MacBook Air. Apple added ProMotion to the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch in 2021, also with a 24Hz to 120Hz refresh rate range.

There are no Macs or iPads with OLED displays yet. Apple’s latest MacBook Air and iPad Pro models feature LCD screens, with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro featuring mini-LED backlighting for increased brightness and an improved 1 million:1 contrast ratio. Unlike mini-LED-equipped LCDs, OLED displays have self-emitting pixels and do not require a backlight, which will give the devices better contrast and battery life.

In the past, Ross Young accurately revealed that devices like Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and MacBook Pro will feature ProMotion refresh rates, the iPad mini 6 will feature an 8.3-inch display, the latest MacBook Air will have a slightly larger 13.6-inch display, and more.
