Apple has introduced the 2022 lineup of MacBooks with a new upgraded Apple Silicone M2 Chip with high claims. The brand has also claimed that they have improved the performance and efficiency of the chipset. Well, the Geekbench 5 scores of the M2 MacBook Air have now surfaced now which gives us a closer glimpse of its performance.

M2 MacBook Air GeekBench 5 scores

First spotted by Mr. Macintosh on Twitter, the early scores of the M2-powered MacBook Air are out on the Geekbench. According to the shared report, the MacBook Air with an M2 chipset and 16GB of unified memory achieved a single-core score of 1,899 and a multi-core score of 8,965. The scores are very identical to what we had previously seen on the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

However, in real case scenarios, the MacBook Pro could perform better than the MacBook Air, as it has better thermals and a fan for cooling is present there. Better cooling may lead to better or sustained performance over time. Even in the case of its predecessor the “Pro” variant was able to give up to 20% better performance compared with the “Air” variant.

When we compare the results to the 2021 MacBook Air, there isn’t much of a difference. For example, the 2021 MacBook Air received 1706 single-core and 7420 multi-core scores. The 2022 variant has a slightly higher score, but the difference isn’t significant. Surprisingly, despite costing nearly $5,000 less, it outperforms the base Mac Pro Tower with an 8core Intel Xeon W processor.

It has also been said that the price-to-performance ratio of the 2022 Apple Silicone chips has fallen by a very little margin, but it was supposed to increase over time. We are still far from the proper testing and reviews of the 2022 MacBooks, as the sale and shipping of the device have not been started yet. We can expect the reviews to come out by ending of this month itself.
