While the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV will be out on the roads as the company starts off with its sales, a brand new all-wheel-drive vehicle has been reserved for the winter months. This was revealed in an Instagram Q&A session with the luxury automobile manufacturer.

Cadillac Lyriq AWD Specifications

Given that Cadillac Lyriq is a rear-wheel drive, uses a single motor, and is rated at 340 hp, the AWD version certainly sounds like a substantial upgrade. This newer version would use two motors that would yield 500hp, as was revealed on Instagram this week. While this makes the car well poised to compete with the Audi e-tron S and the BMW iX xDrive 50, it certainly qualifies as the company’s most powerful car as yet. The 100kWh pack would still linger around for some more time, as there is no mention that the AWD version is using a different battery.

Cadillac did not disclose a value for the car’s torque, but it is likely that it would be lower than the 312 miles EPA estimate that the company gave for its RWD trim during the Q&A round. The car would have DC fast charging capability that would enable it to recharge 75 miles in just 10 minutes.

The flexible Ultium platform on which the RWD version has been built would be a trademark of all GM’s upcoming models, including this AWD cut. Three families of motors have been put to use in these cars that can be mixed and matched to yield a wider range of power outputs.

Orders will be taken for both versions starting May 19. Deliveries of the RWD version’s special Lyriq Debut Edition will begin even before the year is out. With more than 230,000 so-called “expressions of interest”, the future of these cars seems bright.
