Linus Torvalds today rolled out the third release candidate update for Linux Kernel 6.2 a few hours early, saying that work is on track after the holidays and that the entire development state is “starting to look more normal.

Kernel developers and testers are now back at work, as Torvalds stated in a 6.2-rc3 mailing list.

"We have completed another 1 week of work. After a holiday week of making rc2 updates very small, development has become a lot more normal.

Linux Kernel 6.2-rc3 doesn't particularly stand out: mostly driver fixes (network, GPU, blocks, Virtio, but also usb, fbdev, rdma, etc., so a little bit of everything). This is as it should be, and matches most of the code.

On top of the various driver fixes, we also improved the core network, fixed some filesystems (btrfs, cifs, f2fs, and nfs), and some perf tool work."

This week there are some graphics driver fixes for Intel and AMD, added support for Intel’s RAPL codes Emerald Rapids and Meteor lake, fixed some memory leaks, and other improvements throughout the kernel.
