Citing Michael Larabel of the tech press Phoronix, the Linux Kernel 5.20 will add support for DG2, Alchemist Arc graphics desktop GPUs, thanks to the tireless efforts of Intel’s open-source developers. The kernel also adds support for server GPUs including Arctic Sound-M (ATS-M).

During each Linux kernel development cycle, Intel’s development team has updated all releases for the future. A significant amount of Intel DG2 and Arc Alchemist code is now consolidated into the i915 Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) driver, some of which has been integrated into the Linux 5.19 kernel.

Currently, Intel has made graphical changes to DRM-Next, as well as initial work on Ponte Vecchio Xe-HPC support for server platforms. However, Larabel reports that the “small BAR” part is still under development.

Small BAR support-related preparation is all about final under-the-hood enablement, and Intel is currently focusing on adding desktop GPU PCI IDs, as well as the server Arctic Sound-M adapter submitted yesterday. Small BAR support has now landed, which allows us to add PCI IDs corresponding to the add-on card designs for DG2 and ATS-M. An additional MB-down PCI ID (0x5698) has recently emerged, so we’ve added that as well,” Intel said.
