Leica released the Leitz Phone 3, its third smartphone with stronger imaging capabilities, unique functions, rich camera modes, and more. However, the phone will only be available in Japan.

It is noticed that the core imaging components of Leitz Phone 3 follow the configuration of the previous generation model Leitz Phone 2. The rear main camera is still a 47.2MP 1-inch sensor with “eight phase detection autofocus” function, Leica said This sensor brings fast and accurate focusing and excellent photo quality in low-light environments, and the camera is paired with a 19mm f/1.9 equivalent lens. The front-facing camera is 12.6-megapixel with a 78-degree wide viewing angle and f/2.3 aperture.

Although the sensor specifications have not changed, the Leitz Phone 3 has received many upgrades in other aspects. First of all, the body adopts a completely new design, which Leica says reflects its pursuit of functional aesthetics. The back cover has a “premium polyacrylate texture” that feels comparable to a Leica camera. The whole machine weighs 209 grams, making it thin, light and compact.

In terms of performance, Leitz Phone 3 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and is equipped with a 5000mAh large-capacity battery that supports wireless charging. The screen is a 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED screen with a 240Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2730 x 1260 pixels, and a maximum brightness of 2000 nits. Additionally, the phone has 512GB of storage, which is expandable up to 1TB via microSDXF UHS-1 memory card. It is worth mentioning that the Leitz Phone 3 retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and uses a USB-C interface.

In addition to hardware upgrades, the software of Leitz Phone 3 has also been optimized. Leica said that they have rearranged the application icons to make the entire interface simpler and easier to use, which also makes Leica features such as “Golden Hours” and “Leica International Photography Gallery” easier to find and use. The “Golden Hour” feature alerts users one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset, when the light is especially warm and ideal for taking great photos. The “Leica International Photography Gallery” will continue to display the works of Leica photographers around the world.

The Leitz Phone 3 brings the “Leica Perspective Control” function to the smartphone world for the first time. This feature, previously only available on Leica cameras, corrects vertically skewed lines, such as line distortions common in architectural photography. The gyroscope in the phone will measure the camera tilt when shooting, and then the algorithm will calculate the corrected picture. The new image is displayed within a white rectangle, and the user can choose whether to apply corrections. It should be noted that this function only applies to photos in JPEG format, and the original DNG format files will not be modified.

The Leitz Phone 3 also adds new “Leica Style” and “Leica Tone” software features. Among them, the “variable aperture” Leica style can simulate the aperture effect of a variety of classic Leica lenses, such as Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2, Sumilux-M 28mm f/1.4 and Sumilux-M 35mm f /1.4. Leica says users can control the bokeh effect by setting aperture values such as f/1.2, f/1.4 and f/8 via software. Leica said, “This feature provides up to 6-7 aperture stops (depending on the lens), which can bring unique control space for photographic creation.”

In addition, Leica says that the image quality of the “Leica Style” camera mode has been “significantly improved” in three aspects: more accurate representation of light spots (both shape and color), more refined object segmentation, and better Leica color simulation. The Leitz Phone 3 also adds new “Vivid” and “Enhanced” Leica tints, which deliver more vivid, vibrant colors and higher contrast, as well as brighter shadows, respectively. In addition to these two new tones, the new phone still offers “Monochrome”, “Classic Film” and “Modern Film” tones, which are all tonal modes previously developed specifically for Leica smartphones.

Finally, the Leitz Phone 3 also adds a new watermark option that displays aperture, ISO, shutter speed, focal length and the Leica logo on the finished photo, which Leica says can “increase brand recognition” and add a “professional feel.”

The Leitz Phone 3 will be sold exclusively in Japan from April 19, and the price has not yet been announced.

According to Leica news, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Leitz Camera Auction, Leitz Camera Auction cooperated with Leica Camera to launch an exclusive special edition product – Leica M6 “Leitz Camera Auction” version black paint suit, Contains Leica M6 camera and Noctilux-M 50 f / 1.2 ASPH. lens.

According to reports, Leitz Photography Auction is one of the most famous auctions of vintage cameras, lenses and other interesting accessories in the world. Leica M6 “Leitz Camera Auction” Edition Black Lacquer Set with a glossy black lacquer finish, exclusively solid gold Leitz logo by a goldsmith in Wetzlar, Germany, with unique solid wood trim made of walnut veneer.

Official map:

Leica released the M6 “Leitz Camera Auction” version of the black paint suit, limited to 20 sets, with a suggested retail price of 25,980.00 euros (currently about RMB 207,000) (including value-added tax), on sale from August 17.

The introduction of the Leica M6 camera attached is as follows:

The camera features a highly scratch-resistant paint finish, a solid brass top cover, and durable leather. In addition, the surface of the glass element has an anti-reflection coating to prevent stray light interference. The new generation of cameras also carries over the design of the red Leitz logo on the original 1984 camera.

According to reports, the Leica M6 is equipped with a mechanical rangefinder system, a viewfinder magnification of 0.72 times, and is handcrafted from more than 100 individual parts. Aperture and exposure parameters can be set precisely with the lens’ selective exposure metering, while the metering reference indicator is displayed in the lower part of the viewfinder. Classic Macular AF is ideal for fast and precise focusing, even in low-light conditions.

The Rangefinder AF technology of the Leica M6 takes you outside the frame and helps you to catch the shutter precisely. Imaging frame line hints highlight the imaging range of the six focal lengths, which are combined in pairs of 28 and 90mm, 35 and 135mm, and 50 and 75mm. After installing the lens, the corresponding focal length viewfinder will automatically appear in the viewfinder and become the frame line. In addition, all other lines can be displayed in the viewfinder using the line selector lever. Before pressing the shutter, you can choose the appropriate focal length according to the subject to capture the picture at the decisive moment.

Leica has already used 60-megapixel BSI CMOS in the M11 and Q3 cameras. According to foreign media Leica Rumors, Leica is currently preparing to go one step further. They are preparing a 70-megapixel color/monochrome CMOS.

It is reported that Leica and CMOSIS are cooperating to develop a full-frame 70 MP (70 million pixels) CMOS sensor, which is divided into a standard color version and a special monochrome “black and white version” of the Leica Monochrome model. Currently, spy photos of the sensor have been released by foreign media.

▲ Source Leica Rumors

CMOSIS is an Israeli imaging company that is currently affiliated to AMS-Osram. Before that, Leica had cooperated with it in the M240 era (around 2012). The 24MP (24 million pixels) full-frame CMOS jointly developed by the two parties was applied in the M240 (M262 / M240P), SL1, Q1 (Q-P) and other cameras.

Domestic forums generally hold a positive opinion on the imaging of this generation of Leica models. They believe that the CMOS (M240) jointly launched by Leica and CMOSIS is better than the CMOS used in the subsequent Leica M10, M10R, and M11 cameras in terms of saturation, but there are deficiencies in high sensitivity. With Leica’s in-camera processing algorithm in the M240 era, it is easy to appear in the “straight-out JPG”. Features”.

Leica has recently applied a variety of CMOS in its cameras, changing the earlier situation of “one CMOS for all series”, so if Leica uses 70-megapixel CMOS in its M11P or M12, SL3 and other camera models, it is actually not surprising, but the price must be several hundred euros more expensive.

According to LeicaRumors, the Leica M11-P will be released by the end of this year.

The following is the previous release history of the Leica M digital camera:

 Leica M10M: January 2020

 Leica M10R: July 2020

 Leica M11: January 2022

 Leica M11M: April 2023

Foreign media believe that for users who want to own a low-key and unassuming Leica camera, the M11-P cancels the Coke logo may be a good choice.

In addition, considering that next year is the 70th anniversary of the Leica M series, there are rumors that the M series body may have some substantial updates, and I believe that there will be more models for users to choose from.

It found that Leica released the M11 camera in January 2022, with a price of 68,000 CNY for a single body and 133,000 CNY for a 50mm f2.0 set.

It is reported that the Leica M11 camera is an Apple-certified device with the MFi (“Made for iPhone and iPad”) mark, which can realize exclusive functions through the included Leica FOTOS data cable.

In April this year, Leica launched a brand new M11 Monochrom black and white rangefinder camera, which costs 71,000 CNY in the National Bank, and the Summilux-M 50 f / 1.4 ASPH. lens set is 106,500 CNY.

According to reports, Leica’s fourth-generation camera M11 Monochrom equipped with a dedicated black and white photosensitive element has three full-frame black and white photosensitive elements with optional pixels (60 million/36 million/18 million), specially developed for the new generation of M cameras; ISO sensitivity The range reaches 125-200,000, supports up to 15 levels of dynamic range, and can present thousands of light and shadow changes in detail; the all-metal body is covered with black scratch-resistant coating and tough leather exterior; the red Leica logo is deliberately hidden, continuing the Leica M The calm appearance of the family. In addition, the camera has built-in 256GB of storage space and supports USB-C port and Bluetooth connection to mobile phones.
