Recently, Xiaomi Chairman and CEO Lei Jun revealed the relevant test information of Xiaomi SU7 on his personal Weibo. He said that Xiaomi invested in 576 prototype vehicles. The initial test vehicles cost about 2 million RMB each, and the cumulative test mileage exceeded 5.4 million kilometers. Among them, senior executives participated in more than 100,000 kilometers of road testing, and Lei Jun himself participated in 3,000 kilometers of testing.

“Lei Jun drove SU7 from Beijing to Shanghai”

Lei Jun also said on Weibo, “All Xiaomi executives have participated in the road test of Xiaomi SU7, which has accumulated more than 100,000 kilometers. I have participated in more than 10 tests myself, with a mileage of more than 3,000 kilometers. The longest one was on January 5 this year. I drove from Beijing to Shanghai, a total distance of 1,276 kilometers. I drove alone. The whole journey was NOA at high speed, including charging and resting. It took more than 15 hours in total. This test was very challenging for battery life. It was a four-wheel drive vehicle, winter + high speed (on-road vehicle) Not much, the speed is above 100km/h most of the time), and it can be charged twice on the road, so the experience is quite good.”

“For Xiaomi SU7 real vehicle road testing, we invested 576 prototype vehicles and conducted large-scale testing in 300 cities across the country, from the ultra-low temperature of -40°C in Heihe to the high temperature of 60°C in Turpan, spanning a temperature difference of 100°C, to the plateau test in Kunlun Mountain with an altitude of 4768m. . The scale of the test is quite large, and many people have seen our fleet in different cities. After such rigorous testing, Xiaomi SU7 is ready to be released next Thursday.”

“The cost of test cars is very expensive in the first batch, about more than 2 million RMB per car, and later it gets closer to the cost of mass-produced cars.”

Xiaomi SU7 will be officially released on March 28. Starting from March 25, Xiaomi Auto sales stores in 29 cities across the country will start static tasting activities of SU7.

The @Xiaomi and @Lei Jun just posted on their official Weibo to warm up the Xiaomi 14 series of phones that will be officially launched in the near future. This warm-up focuses on the imaging aspect of the phone, which will be released this month.

According to reports, Xiaomi Mi 14 series phones will be equipped with Leica Summilux lenses for the first time and a “new generation optical system solution” jointly constructed with a new professional high-dynamic image sensor for mobile optics.

This lens is claimed to be “the most perfect lens in the field of mobile imaging to date.” This solution will enable mobile devices to “truly have the ability to accurately capture the moment in all times and in all scenes.”

Note: Yesterday, multiple sources claimed that Xiaomi Mi 14 series phones will be equipped with this series of lenses. Leica uses a series of logos to distinguish lens product positioning. For example, Leica’s own well-known “50 2AA” lens, that is, the “Apo-Summicron 50 F2 Asph” lens with the “Summicron” logo, puts more emphasis on the “sharpness” of the lens, corresponding to the aperture. for F2.

Prior to this, phones such as Xiaomi 12/13 series and Leitz Phone 1/2 were marked with the relevant “Summicron” mark to prove the “sharpness” of the relevant phone lenses. Xiaomi series phones also have a “Vario” prefix to prove that the lens has zoom function.

Attached is a Weibo original text:

In 2016, we established the camera department and began to invest in images on a large scale. In the past one or two years, it has made rapid progress, and it has gradually been recognized by rice noodles friends.

In the past two years, we have undergone tremendous changes in cognition: images are not just outsoles and 100 million pixels, images are a high degree of integration of technology and humanities. At the beginning of last year, we first upgraded the imaging strategy, formally clarified the imaging concept, and then established a strategic partnership with Leica. Mi 12S Ultra is a work after cognitive improvement. We have Leica tone and Leica watermark.

This year, we started the era of moving image optics, and jointly developed the moving image Summicron lens with Leica, bid farewell to the digital taste, and returned to the unique optical taste. Mi 13 Ultra is the masterpiece of this year.

Mi 13 Ultra was released on April 18, with prices starting at 5,999 CNY. As a representative of the National People’s Congress, Lei Jun, the founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, said at the plenary meeting of the Beijing Youth League: With the great concern and support of the leaders, the progress of Xiaomi’s car manufacturing has exceeded expectations. The winter test has been successfully completed, and it is expected to achieve mass production in the first half of next year.

"Xiaomi is a Beijing-based company, and it will definitely take root in Beijing and make due contributions to the capital's technological innovation and economic development."

According to the available information, Xiaomi is targeting a pure electric four-door coupe. The battery is expected to come from BYD’s Fudi Battery, and the lidar is from Hesai Technology.

Two of the three suggestions Lei Jun put forward at the meeting this year are related to the automobile industry. Lei Jun said before that now he spends 1/2 of his time and energy on Xiaomi cars, and 1/4 of his time on Xiaomi phones, IoT and high-end, “strive to enter the top five in the world in 15-20 years.”

He suggested vigorously developing automobile culture to help my country transform from a big automobile country to a powerful automobile country:

  1. Guide the creation of richer automotive cultural scenes, provide a stage for the development of automotive culture, and provide richer application scenarios for advanced automotive products and technologies.
  2. Moderately loosen restrictions on car refitting, establish national standards for refitting spare parts and the automotive aftermarket, and provide soil for the development of a diverse and innovative car culture.
  3. Fully implement restrictions on the relocation of second-hand cars, release restrictions on categories such as pickup trucks entering the city, and expand the scope of influence of car culture and the mass base.

He suggested that my country build and improve the automobile data security management system:

  1. Accelerate the formulation of data security standards for the entire life cycle of automobiles to guide the development of the industry.
  2. Establish a vehicle data security certification and evaluation mechanism.
  3. Build a car data sharing mechanism and platform to promote the sharing and use of car data.

According to previous reports, both versions of Xiaomi cars are equipped with Qualcomm’s next-generation smart cockpit chip and Nvidia’s Orin X chip, which supports lidar. Among them, the high-end version is based on the 800V high-voltage platform and is equipped with the Kirin battery of CATL; the low-end version is based on the 400V platform and is equipped with BYD lithium iron phosphate batteries.

In addition, it is reported that the new car is expected to be released within the year as soon as possible and will be released in 2024. The source also said that Xiaomi is also working on a second mass-produced car (internal code-named Le mans), which is planned to be launched in 2025.

Xiaomi Car

Lei Jun previously revealed in his annual speech in August 2022 that Xiaomi’s autonomous driving needs to be fully self-developed. It has formed a team of 500 people and plans to expand to 600 people by the end of 2022. The goal is to enter the autonomous driving industry in 2024. camp.

Regarding the profitability of Xiaomi cars, Lei Jun said that (Xiaomi cars) have long been the same as Xiaomi phones, in addition to hardware profits, they care more about software profits. In the past, cars could integrate sales, after-sales service, and charging piles. In the future, cars can integrate more and more services.

Regarding the question of whether the mass production of automobiles in 2024 is too late, Lei Jun believes that new car-making forces are 6-7 years ahead of Xiaomi. It’s never too late. “Our capabilities are in the operation and maintenance of electronics and user experience. The current electric vehicles are all in our points, so I think our car launch in 2024 is just right.”

It was previously reported that Xiaomi’s first car, code-named MS11, may be equipped with 800V technology and a 260kW electric bridge. It is expected to be officially mass-produced in January 2024. It is reported that the first engineering vehicle has already rolled off the assembly line on September 28, 2022.

In addition, there are reports that Xiaomi has confirmed that the main suppliers of power batteries are Ningde Times and BYD’s Fudi Battery, and the lidar will use Hesai Technology. Xiaomi’s team is developing self-driving technology and is currently integrating software. And the price ceiling of this upcoming sedan is expected to be higher than 300,000 CNY.

In March 2021, Xiaomi Group officially announced that it would end up building cars; on September 1 of the same year, Xiaomi Automobile Co., Ltd. was established with the legal representative Lei Jun and registered capital of 10 billion CNY; on November 27 of the same year, Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee Formally signed a cooperation agreement with Xiaomi, officially announcing that Xiaomi cars will settle in the Beijing Economic Development Zone.

Xiaomi will build a Xiaomi automobile headquarters base, sales headquarters, and R&D headquarters in the Beijing Economic Development Zone. It will build a vehicle factory with an annual output of 300,000 vehicles in two phases, of which the first and second phases will have a capacity of 150,000 vehicles respectively. It is estimated that in 2024 The first car will roll off the assembly line and achieve mass production.

The financial report shows that Xiaomi will invest 829 million CNY in innovative businesses including automobiles in the third quarter of 2022, and the research and development team of Xiaomi cars has exceeded 1,800 people.

Today Xiaomi founder Lei Jun shared on the social platform talked about some of its views on the electric car industry, Lei Jun said that before Xiaomi entered the electric car industry, it conducted deep research on electric cars and gained some deep insights.

Lei Jun believes that the electric car is a kind of consumer electronics product with intelligence, software and user experience as its core. The nature of the automotive industry will evolve from machinery to consumer electronics, with market share highly concentrated in the top companies.

Lei believes that when the electric car industry enters maturity, the world’s top five brands will occupy more than 80 percent of the market, “In other words, the only way we can succeed is to be one of the top five and ship more than 10 million units per year. The competition will be brutal.”

Lei Jun said last month that Tesla had entered the electric car industry more than 10 years earlier than Xiaomi, and some people think Xiaomi has missed the time window to enter the electric car industry. Lei Jun does not agree with this, he thinks the game has just begun and believes that Xiaomi still has many opportunities.

At the end of last month, Lei Jun revealed in an internal speech that the first engineering car of Xiaomi car has officially rolled off the line. In August this year, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi’s self-driving technology had entered the testing phase, and also released a live video of the self-driving technology road test, showing its self-driving technology algorithm and the ability to cover the whole scene. Lei Jun revealed that the first phase of the Xiaomi self-driving technology planning 140 test vehicles, will be tested in the country one after another, the goal is to enter the industry’s first camp in 2024.

The company’s first car will be launched in Beijing’s Economic and Technological Development Zone in 2024 and will be mass-produced.

Previously, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi Group, had revealed that the first engineering car of Xiaomi Auto had been launched on September 28, and that Xiaomi Auto’s next goal was to complete the construction of the car factory. But so far, although hundreds of days have passed since the high-profile announcement of its entry into the car-making industry, Xiaomi has not actually obtained the relevant car production qualification. This is certainly a problem for them that must be solved.

Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi

Relevant research institutions said they expect Xiaomi Auto to be qualified for car production between June 2023 and July 2023. At that time, Xiaomi’s car will be one step closer to mass production and listing. It is worth mentioning that the previously announced mass production of Xiaomi cars by Lei Jun is in 2024, which still has plenty of preparation time.

Although the production qualification of the car has not been obtained for the time being, the research and development work of the Xiaomi car should have been steadily progressing. Xiaomi has applied for hundreds of patents related to cars since Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi was building a car. For example, on October 17, Xiaomi Auto Technology Co. announced a patent for a car that can avoid hazards through sound.
