Apple logo. iPhone Fold

A lot of big names in the smartphone world have folding devices to their names, but up till now, there is no iPhone fold device. Apple has long taken a very nonchalant attitude towards hardware design. Things will surely change in the coming years as Apple takes on its folding device. The company is already testing folding displays to be used on an iPhone fold, or whatever the company decides to call it.

According to our source, Apple has begun testing a polarizer-free OLED panel. But why get rid of the polarizer present on already existing iPhone display panels? The presence of a polarizer on an OLED screen helps the screen to reduce reflections that hit it while under the sun. This enables us to see what is on the screen despite the rays of sunlight that get to the screen. Taking off this polarizer will help make the screen thinner, through this process the display will be more flexible. But won’t the removal of this polarizer ruin the display?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Apple won’t be the first company to remove the panel from a device. In the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, the company got rid of the polarizer. To tackle any market implications, Samsung introduced a colour filter which performs the role of the polarizer while consuming less space on the screen.

With this technology, Apple will be able to develop the display for its foldable device. Rumours have it that the “iPhone fold” will launch sometime in the year 2022. Until then, Apple will continue to make necessary changes and adjustments to its folding display.
