According to foreign technology media 9to5Mac, it was learned from sources that Apple will release a number of new iPad products in the next few months, including iPad mini 7 and two new iPad Airs.

iPad mini 7 and iPad 11th generation

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in December 2022 that Apple has been developing a new iPad mini, which is expected to be released in late 2023 or early 2024.

This information was later confirmed by tipster ShrimpApplePro. It is learned from a report by 9to5Mac that Apple still plans to launch iPad mini 7 in the near future, but the specific time is unclear.

The iPad mini 7 will follow the current-generation design in appearance, but will feature a faster chip. Apple launched the iPad mini 6 in September 2021, still equipped with the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13.

Apple is also internally testing an entry-level iPad codenamed J126b. Apple launched the 10th-generation iPad last year with a similar design to the iPad Air and USB-C port, but with an A14 Bionic chip inside. It’s also possible that the new entry-level iPad will only receive specs upgrades compared to the current model.

New iPad Air and M3 iPad Pro

Sources say Apple is internally testing two iPad Airs, codenamed J507 and J508, which may use new chips and come with different screen sizes.

Bloomberg reported in June this year that Apple developed two iPads named J537 and J538 for the iPad Air. Currently, in Apple’s iPad product line, only the iPad Pro is available in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, and it is reported that the iPad Air will also have two different size versions.

In addition, it is reported that the new generation iPad Pro equipped with M3 chip will also be launched soon. The 11-inch models are J717 and J718, and the 12.9-inch models are J720 and J721.
Redesigned Magic Keyboard

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported last month that Apple has been developing a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad that would look more like a laptop. The Magic Keyboard will abandon plastic material and use aluminum alloy material instead, and use a larger touchpad.

9to5Mac’s sources confirmed the report. The new Magic Keyboard for iPad is labeled R219 (the current version is codenamed R1x) and features new sensors including an accelerometer, and is expected to debut alongside the new iPad Pro.

A new report from DigiTimes stated that Apple may be preparing to release the seventh-generation iPad mini before the end of this year.

In a report discussing stagnant global tablet demand in the second half of 2023, DigiTimes predicts that Apple’s market share will increase due to orders for “small-format” iPads in the fourth quarter. Here is an excerpt from the report:

In the second quarter, iPad shipments declined more sequentially than non-iPad tablets, resulting in iPad shipment share declining for two consecutive quarters. However, the data shows that the share will gradually recover in the second half of the year due to Apple's inventory replenishment needs in the third quarter and orders for the new small-size iPad in the fourth quarter.

It is understood that DigiTimes obtains information from suppliers that make parts for iPhones and other Apple products. Its sources often provide reliable information, but the website is uneven in interpreting this information and accurately inferring Apple’s plans. record of. It’s best to take the site’s information with a grain of salt until the information is corroborated by other sources, especially when it comes to rumors.

That being said, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that an iPad mini refresh with minor “spec bumps” isn’t out of the question. Last month, tipster “ShrimpApplePro” also hinted that Apple was developing a seventh-generation iPad mini, saying they had seen evidence that at least one new iPad model would be released this year.

However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in January that he believed the seventh-generation iPad mini would most likely begin mass production in the first quarter of 2024, and Kuo recently said he doesn’t expect any new iPads this year.

The current sixth-generation iPad mini is equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, while the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro use A16 and A17 Pro chips respectively. The seventh-generation iPad mini may upgrade the processor, and may also upgrade the front and rear cameras, which may Bringing features like the Photon Engine to the iPad for the first time, other possible new features include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

ShrimpApplePro today issued a tweet, that said Apple is developing the 7th generation iPad mini tablet.

In the tweet, he says Apple is planning to release a new iPad, most likely a 7th generation iPad mini, and that he plans to leave for Japan in 2 weeks for a vacation, so the next time he’ll be back will probably be next month.

Ming-Chi Kuo revealed in January this year, iPad in the next 9-12 months may not have a new product and may need to wait until the first quarter of next year to be able to produce the 7th generation iPad mini.

Previously, it was said that the biggest highlight of the 7th generation iPad mini would be a new processor. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are expected to be equipped with the A16 Bionic and A17 Bionic, respectively, while the 7th generation iPad mini may adopt one of the two chips mentioned above.

Despite the “mini” in the model name, the iPad mini tablet is not an entry-level device in terms of hardware specifications and market position. Last year’s iPad mini 6, for example, was dubbed by many as the “A15 mini. Thanks to its lightweight size and superior performance, it has attracted many iOS dual-players or Android + iOS dual-players. As for the next-generation iPad mini 7 model, recent reports suggest that it will receive a major update to its screen assembly.

While screen sizes are getting bigger across the iPad lineup — there are even rumors that the iPad Pro will be bumped up to 14.1 inches — the lightweight iPad mini isn’t being left behind.

The latest leak from LeaksApplePro says that the biggest change to the iPad mini 7 will be support for the 120Hz ProMotion high-brush full-screen (also reported in a number of rumors late last year), but the size will remain at 8.3 inches.

“For reference, the current iPad mini 6 only has a normal 60Hz screen and the ‘jelly screen’ issue has dissuaded many potential buyers.

Other than that, iPad mini 7 is expected to use the 4nm advanced process A16 Bionic chipset and the memory is expected to be upgraded to 6/8GB LPDDR5.

Unfortunately, Apple is unlikely to release the new device in the second half of this year, and the earliest it could be released would be spring 2023.

As for ProMotion, this is Apple’s custom name for the “Adaptive Refresh Rate” feature. The feature is the ability to intelligently switch between 1 to 120 Hz depending on the usage scenario.

This technology is already supported by many LTPO displays on the market and has proven to be effective in reducing battery consumption in mobile devices. But with the iPad mini 7, Apple is not expected to make it significantly more expensive.
